This is devastating for a city no doubt, but one thing you won’t hear from me is the this-is-what-happens-when-you-ban-guns argument. There are too many variables involved and I won’t be pulled into the “Chicago is a gun control bellwether” argument.
Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse (D-R.I.) is not a self-defense expert, and I don’t want him – or any other politician or government agency – telling me what is an acceptable firearm to use for self-defense. Every person, situation, neighborhood and home is totally different.
Except of course for the lawmakers and law enforcers. Listen carefully to the politicians and the gun control crowd – including many law enforcement leaders whose jobs are tied to politics – as they talk about the future of gun control. To them, it’s not confiscation, rather a “removal of firearms” from the public realm over time through restrictive legislation.

Of course, these bastards keep saying “we won’t take your guns away.” They pride themselves on that statement. But instead of physically taking them from you, they just write a law that makes law-abiding citizens who owned firearms into criminals if they don’t get rid of them.
The United States Department of Homeland Security has stated a rifle chambered in 5.56 NATO (compatible with .223) with a magazine capacity of 30 rounds is “suitable for personal defense use in close quarters…”
Jazz Shaw over at Hot Air just put a nice piece together about the so-called gun show loophole, which is not a gun show loophole, but rather a private sale loophole. The issue here is the federal government and the ATF publish no regulations as to when one must become a federal firearms “dealer.”
