Weiner Resigns. Crowd yells “Pervert!” UPDATE: Howard Stern behind the heckling?

Wow. Not what I expected. I thought his District loved him. Feast your eyes and ears on this one. It wasn’t just the Democrat leadership that pushed him out. The natives are restless.

Here’s the video … I know it is kinda of anti-climactic but so worth the wait. Or is it? In actuality he gets credit for facing his constituents, doesn’t he? I kinda feel bad for the guy, or am I turning soft? Red meat for someone.

On the other hand, if this is a political ploy to make a comeback … Ed Morrissey doesn’t think so.

Supposing for the moment that Weiner has that strategy in mind, it’s even less likely to succeed, for a couple of reasons.  One, NY-09 is a safe Democratic district, held by the same party for almost 90 years.  Democrats will find a strong candidate for an upcoming special election, and Weiner’s peccadilloes will almost certainly keep him from gaining any traction at all if he chooses to challenge for his old seat.  Democrats don’t need Weiner to hold the seat, and even if constituents wanted him to stand his ground, they’re not going to remain that loyal to a man who has porn stars scolding his lack of ethics.

Thoughts, questions, comments?

UPDATE: So now it appears the bizarreness of this closing chapter was reportedly boosted by a staffer from the Howard Stern show. Swell. Well, a perfect ending to a perfect day.

This is so sad. Congressman Aptlynamed represented all that is good about the Democrat Party.

A definite loss to the conservative cause, too bad!
Now we gotta keep Debbie W.S. talking?without self destructing, and she’s not helping much.

I…. me…. my….. my… I (repeat often) .? Even the body language is all contrition, lacking any hint of arrogance, right?
A Chuck Schumer minion, he got into politics to give voice to those who had none .? Right, – as a democrat in a district held by democrats for 80 years.? Right.
I think Mark Twain opined that public office holders, like diapers, should be changed often and for the same reason.? True then, true now.

I sorta feel sorry about the heckling – should have happened weeks ago and perhaps he would have quit sooner. Ironic for it to happen when finally he’s trying to do the right thing.
I think morality and personal responsibility won the day, however.

“Without values power becomes arbitrary and unmanageable”—Henry Kissinger, 6/13/11
While Dr. Kissinger may not have been talking specifically about (now) ex-Congressman Weiner,? his words seem so applicable to this current embarrassing bump in the media/congressional road.
Weiner made an absolute fool of himself by allowing this to drag on for 3 weeks…by constantly thrusting himself into the media feeding frenzy.? There’s no way he was getting the “people’s business” accomplished.? He’s not just a narcissist, but he’s clearly a delusional exhibitionist.
Can we please be done with these “public servants” who are lacking in the values department?? These scandalous affairs seem to be nothing more than distractions from what’s really going on behind the curtain.?? As crappy as normal has become, I’d like to get back to it.

Red meat for the conservative media spin machine-they kept this story in the news for almost 3 weeks. They made sure they destroyed him and humiliated his family. The crude questions asked by Breitbart’s followers yesterday sickened me.
Vitter (who broke the law) hit the news and and died down in 2 days! The R’s (led by Cantor who screamed for Weiner’s head) said about Vitter “Well, let his constituents decide”. Can you say h-y-p-o-c-r-i-t-e-s?
Oh, by the way, a poll taken in Weiner’s district had over 60% of his constituents saying they would vote for him again.

crystal:? if I’m not mistaken, the liberal media was all over this like white on rice, too.? Weiner kept walking through crowds of reporters and wouldn’t zip his yap, getting as much face time as he could.
As for the “conservative media spin machine” and your accusation that they “destroyed him and humiliated his family”, that’s b.s.? He should have taken responsibility for his reprehensible behavior right from the beginning:? he destroyed himself and he, and he alone, humiliated his family.
And I’m sure there is a list a mile long of those from both parties who behave badly.? Methinks you’re just irritated that Weiner was the architect of his own catastrophic downfall and you’re trying to find someone to blame (Breitbart) or throw out there what seems to be the typical democrat response, “Well, Vitter is worse“.

Sounds like someone has a laptop full of Weiner photos.

  9. TomL on June 17, 2011 at 8:15 am

crystal lets have some verification that the hecklers were Breitbarts and I’m still waiting a response about proof that Breitbart lied. Put on your tinfoil hat his own party thru him under the bus.

  10. crystal4 on June 17, 2011 at 10:26 am

Amazing-it was all over the news.
C’mon, do some googling…hint…you won’t find the list of his odious lies on “biggovernment”. I did read though that even Beck scrubbed his site of Breitbart’s clipped videos.

  11. TomL on June 17, 2011 at 10:44 am

I’m not the one who said he lied you did, proof is on your end. I’ve done my research but all you can do is run your mouth but can’t back it up.

  12. sammy22 on June 17, 2011 at 12:33 pm

Weiner played the “denial” game and lost (as he should have). Some politicians played the same game and “won”. If he had come clean right-off-the-bat, he might still be in Congress.

  13. stacyc on June 17, 2011 at 12:48 pm

While I find the entire situation a sad commentary on our public servants who should be setting an example of character and leadership, it ?does not surprise me.? Have we forgotten about former President Clinton and his indiscretions while in the Oval Office?? He ?then continued to lie under oath about the circumstances.? He did not resign, even after being formally impeached.? Why should we expect anything different from our leaders now?? Clinton set the precedence for being in a position of power and being able to “get away with” inappropriate and scandalous behavior.??

  14. sammy22 on June 17, 2011 at 2:22 pm

“Scandalous” behavior in public office goes back farther than Clinton. “Indiscretions”, a quaint term for what has gone on, go back to the Founding Fathers, and in the rest of the world to the beginning of recorded history.

  15. TomL on June 17, 2011 at 3:07 pm

Sammy I agree if he came clean he would have looked better.

A sad commentary on the state of the USA. What has become of the practice of SHAMING?

  17. Dimsdale on June 18, 2011 at 11:02 pm

Pols know no shame.?? Another reason for term limits.
    ?
At least the dreaded “right wing media” didn’t have to make up this story, a la Dan Rather….

Unfortunately, we have not seen the last of Weiner.? If Marion Berry can do crack with a hooker and have it all on video tape…do his time, and win re-election later we all know that Weiner will get a do-over.? Weiner’s arrogance and hubris got the better of him.? He’s certainly quite full of himself from the way he poses isn’t he.
    ?
Democrats have no shame.? If Weiner were a Republican-he’d been out of office two weeks ago.? Why isn’t NOW jumping up and down…oh yeah, that’s? right they only attack conservatives and people on the right.? I love how NOW ignores anything and everything bad that happens to Republican women, but bang their angry drums for the smallest slight against leftists!

  19. crystal4 on June 20, 2011 at 8:05 am

And if Vitter can get re-elected after he was found to frequent prostitutes (and was actually setting up dates with them via his phone WHILE the senate was voting on bills)….well, if his constituents felt he was doing his job, so be it.
My feeling is that Weiner should run for re-election as it appears via polling of his constituents that they did not want him to resign.
I don’t care about people’s sex lives as the “party of family values” seems to…(oh, wait, only if it is a Dem.)

  20. Don Lombardo on June 20, 2011 at 10:08 am

He still hasn’t officially resigned, his staff? – in Washington and New York – is still working, and his pension is still building time of service. Something?smells here.?

  21. Tim-in-Alabama on June 20, 2011 at 10:29 am

I had to watch the video of Weiner4’s resignation again because the shout of, “Yeah! Bye-bye, pervert!” is one of the funniest things I’ve ever heard at a political event. What’s even funnier is the continued defense of Weiner4, but I guess that’s to be expected. He did have a lot of Twitter followers.

  22. crystal4 on June 20, 2011 at 6:47 pm

Nice guy, TimO, what else do you enjoy, watching old people fall down?
