Refreshing

This came from Ace, which I don’t get to often enough.

Kids from the Ron Clark Academy put together a song “You Can Vote”. Very Nice and I am not surprised. Ron Clark and his Academy have been hailed for their ability to reach kids. I don’t know much more than that but you can learn more here: Ron Clark Academy in Atlanta. These kids are sharp and funny and future leaders without doubt. Go to Ace to watch the whole song “You Can Vote For Whoever You Want”. I only am putting up a snippet but there’s more below the fold.

The best part, for me anyway, comes next … the interview with Willie. Courage.

The second clip is an interview with two of the students. One for Obama and one for McCain. Most were naturally enough for Obama. The one for McCain, little Willie Thornton, apparently has not let the “Joe The Plumber” investigations intimidate him. That alone gets him my vote. Now that’s courage.

These video clips are heartwarming to me, both as a teacher and a parent. That’s how it should be: a healthy debate that fosters critical thinking. Unfortunately, that’s often not what actually happens in the classroom…

The other day my 13-year-old daughter criticized Biden and the Obama campaign for their angry reaction to probing questions from WFTV news anchor Barbara West. The teacher — whom I know socially — told my child that she was wrong and that West was “obnoxious.” So disappointing.
