Just Stay Home, Don’t Vote

It is an amazingly revealing interview with another one of my heroes John Stossel. For 20/20 this Stossel interview young people of voting age and found a stunning lack of knowledge on the part of the newly registered electorate. Stunning. The first part here is a clip of the show. The second part is where Shep asks a few questions. Stossel wonders why if people don’t care enough about the Republic to register, why should we have to register them at rock concerts.

This second clip is where Stossel wonders why we put so much faith in government. Indeed.

Stossel is right on. It is incumbent upon voters to be at least minimally informed about what they are voting about. It is like buying a car: if you do your research, you will get the best deal. If not, you will be hosed by the dealership. Getting some wasted kids at a concert to fill out a form is no different than getting a child to make an X where you tell them to. Having accurate information will protect YOU, and produce the best possible candidates.

Of course, if the media insists on misreporting or withholding facts, then I guess we can't be too suprised that potential voters are misinformed (by design).

OMG I wrote an article in the West Hartford News saying the EXACT same thing.
