Card Check In Action

This is an amazing story of how a union can abuse a system like card check. More amazing is the way the employees were the ones who fought back to get the union out of their company and out of their lives.

I am in a union and have been for most of my working life, AFTRA. It is an AFL-CIO organization. I have been a shop steward and active in my early years and I can and have seen the good a union can do for its workers. I have worked in a non union shop as well so I think I bring some perspective here.

Unions by their nature, are not bad. But I have never liked the strong armed tactics used (yes, by me as well) on their members, and prospective members, to maintain power. It’s the libertarian in me. I have always felt that organizing should be voluntary. Members should be “willing” members because in the long run it makes the union stronger.

Organizing for organizing sake is not only fruitless but not much different than a disinterested and disconnnected employer. It becomes a numbers game for money and power ultimately leaving the worker disenfranchised from the process at both ends. The employee becomes the permanent pawn and tool of two warring factions.

Card check will exacerbate this and must be stopped. Workers of the world unite. Save the secret ballot.

My late father, who when he worked at Pratt and Whitney was in the union, must now be doing break dancing spinning in his grave with all this talk Jim about "card checking".

Amen to Jim's comments.  The same can be said for the Goverment being charitable with our money.  Next step – a Gov't MANDATED volunteer program.
