How The Mighty Have Fallen

Our good friend John Hinderaker at Powerline has done a magnificent job of dissecting last week’s 60 Minutes piece in which CBS bought into (willingly?) Jill Simpson’s story concerning Karl Rove. She claimed that it was Rove who asked her to dig up compromising photos on former Alabama Governor Siegelman. Rove says (yesterday on Fox News) he has never even met her or talked to her.

But what’s key to John’s piece is not so much what Simpson claims but the fact that even a cursory check of the story should have sent CBS running in the other direction. It did not because apparently they did not. Sometimes at CBS, stories are just too good to check out.
