Yes, they can: Empowering kids with disabilities

Plan , success, support, trust … not words, but a call to action … not a slogan, a new way of life.

Every year more than 30 of the state’s top High School students with various disabilities gather on the campus of the University of Connecticut for the Connecticut Youth Leadership Forum.  It is a mind expanding and physically demanding experience that like the 11 classes before them, will turn them into leaders in the disability community and the community in general.

This is my 11th year with the group. It was only supposed to be 1 year. But the people who actually run this camp are very persuasive. And the kids, are just amazing. Enjoy. Then go here to the Connecticut Youth Leadership Project to learn more.

BTW, October is National Disability Empowerment Awareness Month.

Jim, after hearing you talk about "camp" during the time you were attending, it's great to see the video of exactly what you were involved in.  I'm so glad I saw it from beginning to end while the house is quiet for once.  What an EXCELLENT endeavor all the way around…it seems that everyone involved comes out the better for the experience.  Proud of you for the time & care you invested in these kids…nice to see someone in the public eye give back to the community in such a wonderful way.  **snaps**for all those kids and for you, Jim!

Jim, I had watched the video from begining to end, and all I can say is that these young people are AWSOME! They show in this video presentation that nothing is impossible, if you put your mind and heart to it. Jim, these young people show also that they too, can be leaders in there own communities, and for this, they are leaders who will bring back to their communites new knowledge and insight those with and without challenges. Jim, I am very please that you go out of your way to not only give back to the community, but to HIGHLIGHT these young men and women. God Bless BOTH you and these WONDERFUL young people. Thank-you Jim for this EXCELLENT video and for presenting these young people. ((((((((((((Gentle Hugs To Jim And The Young People In The Video)))))))))))) :)=^..^=

Have A Good And Blessed Life Of Sucess Ahead Of You, The Young Men And Women Of The 2010 Connecticut Youth Leadership Forum. :)=^..^=
