Worst Economy Since … never mind.
When you need to get your liberal social agenda through … and fast … it’s the worst economy since the … well you know the rest. But when it’s time to speak positively to business leaders … well, what the heck, it’s not that bad.
Confronting misgivings, even in his own party, President Barack Obama mounted a stout defense of his blueprint to overhaul the economy Thursday, declaring the national crisis is “not as bad as we think” and his plans will speed recovery.
Challenged to provide encouragement as the nation’s “confidence builder in chief,” Obama said Americans shouldn’t be whipsawed by bursts of either bad or good news and he was “highly optimistic” about the long term.
Glenn Reynolds calls it the “Emily Litella” Presidency. Never Mind … because so much has changed since February when the Democrat Congress and Obama were trying to push through the Porkapalooza and a multi trillion dollar budget complete with deficits as far as the eye can see.

I guess it all depends on who you are speaking to and what’s on the agenda.

It is only a "catastrophe" when it is politically advantageous for it to be so for the Democrats. Too bad about the side effects on the economy in the meantime.
This is a problem primarily of the Democrats own making. Remember how McCain was excoriated for saying that "the fundamentals of the economy are strong" in an attempt to counter the continual economy bashing of the campaign mode Democrats (actually the BDS mode Democrats, who talked down the economy since 9/11). Obama can barely stop doing it now, and had to reprogram his teleprompters to start putting out positive messages.
