Told you so: Obama will miss Guantanamo deadline Update: Video

No plan … it was not going to happen. They are trying to pay off every country possible to hand off terrorists currently housed at Camp Delta in Guantanamo Bay. I knew it. You knew it. President Obama will miss his self-defined deadline to close the facility.More from CNN this morning.

Defense Secretary Robert Gates acknowledges that closing the U.S. military prison at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, will likely take longer than planned.
Defense Secretary Robert Gates said it may take longer than expected to close Guantanamo prison.

Defense Secretary Robert Gates said it may take longer than expected to close Guantanamo prison.

“I think it has proven more complicated than anticipated,” Gates said in an interview broadcast Sunday on CNN’s “State of the Union.”

Noting he had pushed for a firm deadline of January 2010 for closing the controversial facility, Gates said: “If you have to extend that date, if at least you have a strong plan showing you’re making progress in that direction, then this — it shouldn’t be a problem to extend it and we’ll just see whether that has to happen or not.”

And just what is that plan Mr. Secretary?

I seem to remember the number 247 for the number of detainees at the camp at the beginning of the Obama administration and the CNN piece says there are currently 230. Got rid of 17 of them?

My guess? Some community in the United States will get billions of dollars to build, staff and maintain a new facility – maybe in Michigan – to house these 230, which are some of the worst of the worst.

UPDATE (Jim): Here’s video of Gates making pretty much the same statement to GS on ABC
