Video – The Problem With Detroit

Why are the Big 3 automakers on the brink of bankruptcy? Bad management? Absolutely. But an onerous union contract with the UAW is a big part of the problem too, in particular the jobs bank. Workers, who otherwise would be laid off in an attempt to reduce labor costs, instead are placed in a jobs bank and paid at 80% of their salary for up to 5 years I understand, for doing nothing. But listen to this interview by Neil Cavuto with Job Banker Dan Simon. He could have moved with his job … but chose not to … why would he. Video below the fold.

and you want your taxpayer money to reward ridiculous contracts like this. I blame management for agreeing to this … and the UAW for thinking it could get away with this kind of waste for very long.

Gary, this may be too deep a thought for you, but actions have consequences and, when you choose a course of action, you choose the consequences associated with that action.
