The only ones I want to die are cops

It’s riveting video and great reporting by The Day in general and reporter Karen Florin in particular.

Richard Shankman kidnaps his ex-wife, attorney Nancy Tyler, and holds her hostage for 12 hours in the “bunker” basement of his South Windsor home. It is beyond bizarre.

Tyler said Shenkman had set up video viewing screens with live feed from every part of the property, and when he took her there after kidnapping her at gunpoint from a Hartford parking garage, he spent the day threatening to kill her, making demands of police and talking on the phone with relatives and acquaintances. As the day wore on, Tyler said Shenkman grew more agitated and his demands of police grew more impossible.

In the middle of all of this he calls Karen Florin at The Day around 1PM on Tuesday and here’s the conversation. The transcript and longer video can be found at The Day.
