Big gun lobby dollars heading to Virginia governor’s race

By Steve McGough / October 23, 2013 /

Money will be pouring in from both sides of the gun debate as Terry McAuliffe (D) – former Democratic National Committee chairman tied closely with Bill and Hillary Clinton – takes on Republican Ken Cuccinelli and Libertarian Robert Sarvis for the governor’s seat in Virginia next month.

NRA’s gun safety program for kids pays off in Michigan

By Steve McGough / May 3, 2011 /

Remember when some journalists freaked out when Martha Dean advocated firearm safety training in Connecticut schools? Well that same training worked out pretty good for four young kids in Michigan who found a loaded revolver while playing hide and seek. Stop; Don’t Touch; Leave the Area; Tell an Adult.

Biden won’t let Obama take his guns – or ours

By Steve McGough / September 20, 2008 /

My first thought when I heard about Biden’s statement concerning firearm ownership was – I’ll bet my last dollar he was not in San Fransisco, Seattle, Chicago or New York. No way. Biden stated, “I guarantee you Barack Obama ain’t taking my shotguns, so don’t buy that malarkey.” Biden spoke at the United Mine Workers…

Colion Noir interview with Cam Edwards on gun control (Video)

By Steve McGough / March 20, 2013 /

Worth eight minutes of your time. Here’s the basic question … there are guns all over the United States, in every city and every suburb. Why do certain areas within cities like Chicago have extreme issues with gun violence, when other communities within the United States do not have as big of an issue, or…

NRA-ILA coordinates “Lobby Day” in Hartford this Monday, March 11

By Steve McGough / March 6, 2013 /

The National Rifle Association’s Institute for Legislative Action is coordinating a Lobby Day in Hartford with local Connecticut groups this coming Monday. I expect this will be a large event, and parking should not be an issue since there will be complementary shuttle transportation available from Cabela’s in East Hartford. Everyone is encouraged to try…

School suspends student for refusing to change NRA shirt – arrested

By Steve McGough / June 24, 2013 /

The real point for me is that the police should have never been called and the kid should have been left alone. Fourteen-year-old Jared Marcum wore a T-shirt to school that offended the administration because it said Protect Your Right with a picture of an AR-style rifle on it.

San Francisco mayor blames NRA for triple homicide

By Steve McGough / February 21, 2009 / Comments Off on San Francisco mayor blames NRA for triple homicide

I’m questioning future visits to San Francisco until this idiot Gavin Newsom is out of office. He actually smiles as he says the NRA is against “anything that restricts the opportunity for a guy who gets cut off in traffic from pulling out a hand gun and almost assassinating an entire family, as was the…

By Steve McGough / February 2, 2009 /

On Sound Off Connecticut today, current legislation in the U.S. House concerning firearm licensing was mentioned and we have an update for you. The NRA is tracking legislation and provides us with the proposal details. If you are a member of the National Rifle Association (NRA), one of the services is e-mail notification concerning proposed…

By Steve McGough / March 6, 2014 /

My next NRA Basic Pistol class will be held on Monday and Tuesday, March 17 & 18 starting at 6 p.m. each night. An ideal number of students for me is six, and I think I have three, so I’d like to again reach out to readers to see if they are interested.

Huge spike in firearm sales results in … less crime

By Steve McGough / January 3, 2010 / Comments Off on Huge spike in firearm sales results in … less crime

It’s certainly not what the Brady Campaign would proclaim, but the big increase in firearm sales between the summers of 2008 and 2009 does not seem to have increased the crime rate in the United States … especially since the violent crime rate dropped 4.4 percent during the first half of 2009.
