Ignorance. Putting their heads in the sand. Feel good legislation. I’m sick of politicians who cry for more restrictions on firearm ownership by law abiding citizens in the United States. Mexican President Felipe Calderon urged the return of the AWB today, and many in Congress cheered.
I have no issue with law-abiding citizens carrying a firearm to protect themselves and their family. I also think it’s ridiculous, “feel good” policy to draw imaginary lines – state borders, parking lots, parks, schools or at work – taking away that option from those who can legally carry everywhere else. There is some serious mis-information floating around concerning the arrest of a University of New Haven commuter student yesterday. First, from the information we have been provided so far, he did not break any state law.

I’m pretty certain the next thing we will hear from Bob Costas’ spokesman is that he has received death threats*. Late yesterday afternoon, we heard from a spokesman that Costas really did not say what we all heard him say.
Contrary to popular belief, you can’t just walk into a gun store and buy a firearm like you would a loaf of bread. At a minimum, you fill out a federally mandated form and a phone call is made to (usually) state authorities to complete a background check.

Don’t panic. Although the Connecticut State Legislature is always “discussing” new legislation, to my knowledge no “real” bills are actually in the pipeline. That said, members of the legislature have meetings and discuss ideas, and this year – like every other year – gun laws are being discussed.
And you can responsibly carry a pistol in a bar that serves alcohol, and you can even carry your firearm on college campuses. I thought most of the misconceptions concerning Connecticut state law when it comes to permits and carrying handguns had been squashed, yet some continue to put totally false garbage out there.
