By Steve McGough / April 2, 2008 / Comments Off on High School Dropout Rate Crisis

If anything can be defined as a crisis, the current high school dropout rate statistics just might qualify. America’s Promise Alliance, founded by Colin Powell, released a report entitled Cities in Crisis, A Special Analytic Report on High School Graduation [PDF, 1.8 MB]. For Obama, federal government reach has NO limit – Free college proposed

By Steve McGough / January 9, 2015 /

For years, I’ve been advocating the complete shutdown of the U.S. Department of Education. In the United States Constitution, funding of education is never mentioned or implied, but for 35 years federal government has been handing out cash to states and school systems in return for capitulating to prescribed standards and rules created by federal bureaucrats. By Steve McGough / December 9, 2013 /

You probably won’t see that creative writing assignment in a high school English class, but some students in an Albany, N.Y. High School English class were asked to “argue that Jews are evil, and use solid rationale from government propaganda to convince me of your loyalty to the Third Reich!”

It’s for the children – Tacoma teacher strike hits day seven

By Steve McGough / September 21, 2011 /

Is this strike about quality school text books, student supplies or a quality curriculum?  Nope, it’s supposedly a little about teacher pay and class size, but mostly about tenured teachers and their ability to transfer to schools they want to teach at.

How many times have we reformed the education system in the United States? How many billions have been thrown at the problem? In Boston yesterday, President Obama asked for more reform and more money to solve the education woes.

Liberal education blocks conservative opinion at Pratt Institute

By Steve McGough / March 2, 2011 /

Nice. Just more proof there is absolutely no room in the liberal/progressive/socialist/statist halls of higher education for conservative views. The Pratt Institute does seem to be a private institution, so there is no censorship here that I can see, but don’t you dare suggest this school is open to discussion of various points of view.

Connecticut Supreme Court: Students guaranteed adequate standard of education quality

By Steve McGough / March 22, 2010 /

A wonderful gesture. The Connecticut Supreme Court ruled that not only must the state provide a substantially equal educational opportunity to its youth in its free public elementary and secondary schools, but they must also get an education that will adequately prepare them for college or a job in the real world.
