Rand Paul To Republicans: We are co-opting you

By that he means the Tea Party Movement. Stand strong my little mobsters.

From yesterday’s This Week, Rand Paul is asked by Christiane Amanpour if Paul would vote for an increase in the debt ceiling. It’s the latest and greatest gotcha question from the left. Vote to increase it, and you are not a fiscal conservative, the left reckons. Vote against raising the ceiling, and chaos ensues. Rand Paul does not back down. Plus he sends a message to the “old school” Republicans. “We are co-opting Washington.”

The plan for people like Paul is to force cuts in the budget before there is any vote to increase the debt ceiling. In other words, unless we can show the public we are serious about reducing the size of government, we will indeed vote against the debt ceiling increase. Risky? Without an increase in the debt ceiling, the Government can’t pay its bills and the government “shuts down”. You tell me. Compromise?

Oh, listen to Rand Paul as Christiane tries to pin Paul down on Federal spending cuts. Smack down.

And it’s not just Rand Paul who will hold the line on the debt until there are cuts in the budget.

Sen. Jim DeMint, South Carolina Republican, was asked Sunday on NBC’s “Meet the Press” whether he would vote to raise the debt ceiling, and said, “No, I won’t.”

“Not unless this debt ceiling is combined with some path to balancing our budget, returning to 2008 spending levels, repealing Obamacare. We have got to demonstrate that we have the resolve to cut spending … we cannot allow that to go through the Congress without showing the American people that we are going to balance the budget, and we’re not going to continue to raise the debt in America,” he said.

I don’t think it’s that risky. Oh to be sure, there will be a lot of noise with Democrats accusing of, umm, holding the budget process hostage, along with tax cuts, blah, blah, blah. Watch for this to become the battle de jour in the next Congress.

its quite clear from this video that Rand Paul is a sharp, knowledgeable and well prepared speaker. He avoided every trap question from the grossly condescending Amanpour.  People like Rand Paul, Chris Christy, Tim Pawlenty, and Mike Pence give hope to the right. Its only a matter of time (and the sooner the better) before they take the place of Boehner and McConnell

I saw this and was stunned with how competent Paul is.  He deflected every one of Amanpour's traps and avoided the baits designed to generate sound bites that would be used against him.  He was in total control and made her look like the bumbling opinionated amateur she is.  It was poetry in motion!

Paul Rand has said it all, the Tea Party people are indeed the movers and pushers, the republicans are being supported and expanded not because of them but in spite of them. More people, as Paul did, should stand up and make this statement.

WOW – Congratulations Kentucky T.E.A. Party for helping Rand Paul get elected.

In regards to T.E.A. Party foreign policy, I would recommend the following:

    1.  Stop nation building.  The US should never be the ever expanding Roman empire.  see #3.

    2.  Respect the sovereignty of every individual, state- local or foreign and foreign country.

    3.  If we succeed as a Republic, fully respecting the Constitution, every other nation will follow the lead of our success without us firing a shot.

    4.  If we need defending – Washington SHALL NOT tie the hands of the military with political corrrectness.  The cost in lives, etc will be greatly reduced.

Go Rand Paul! I know I always sound like a rabid Republican, but that is only because in CT that is the only opposition to the Democrats. I truly love the Tea Party candidates. They are our only hope. Clearly in CT there just plain isn't any hope. But, the rest of U.S. gets it. We need for the establishment Republicans to listen to Rand Paul and Rubio etc. We cannot let the establishment Republicans crush these guys. In the Senate, the stupid establishment is already trying to eat Jim Demint alive. Some Republicans do support Tea Party ideals and they need to make a coalition to subdue the status quo Republicans (who are the same as Democrats). God, Rand Paul is articulate and truly believes!
