Political correctness run amok

Last week the Oregon Board of Education passed a new regulation prohibiting any public school from using a  team name, logo or mascot that “depicts or refers to an American Indian Tribe, individual, custom or tradition”.  All schools must comply, or risk cuts in state funding.

But, everyone is not happy.

The Confederated Tribe of Siletz Indians, whose reservation lies between the Oregon coast and the capital of Salem, denounced the rule because its school name uses a now-proscribed nickname, The Warriors.

The Confederate Tribes of La Ronde is also upset, contending that the rule “trampled on our sovereignty”.

A comment by Tribal Chairwoman Delores Pigsley is illustrative.

For the Siletz Tribal community, this action has a negative impact on our students and our community.  We will be forced once again to succumb to the misguided intentions of people who have no knowledge of our Indian communities. [emphasis supplied]

Perhaps we could ask Elizabeth Warren (D. Ma.) to mediate this dispute.

The PC crowd is at again. Sanitizing the language of anything reminding us of indigenous persons is brave of them.
What will the Siletz Indians now call their team? The W’s?
What’s next? Banning the use of the word Chief??
    ?

Political “correctness” is just another name for bullying by liberals.? It is merely an extension of their inability to debate with facts, and shows their disdain for the First Amendment by making anything but “approved” speech illegal.? It is cowardly and anti intellectual, a charge they reflexively bestow upon conservatives.

Sounds like the Oregon Board of Eduction is trying to separate Americans from their history.
Not?good sign.? Especially when you add in the sovereignty, First Amendment?and loss of funding issues.?
    Bullies indeed.
Liberals better get their party back from the progressives.??

I think they should change the team name to: “The Angry White Lefties”!? Their mascot could be a caricature of Howard Dean and they could adapt from his rousing “I have a scream speech”.???????? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D5FzCeV0ZFc

I am particularly amused as my son plays tomorrow in the first round of the state lacrosse tournament – the Farmington Indians v. the North Haven Indians…….
