Philly swim club turns away minorities while supporting … Obama?

This is an amazingly heartbreaking story that this kind of crap still exists today. When you listen to these kids it just makes you want to cry, or scream, or both. But it is a classic not in my backyard story … or pool for that matter. By now you have probably heard about the Philly swim club that told minority day campers to leave and never come back. If not … here’s the video.

And by now … despite their feverish attempts to flush a key part of this story down the memory hole … it turns out blogs are charging the key man in this story … is an Obama supporter … but how could that be?

“There was concern that a lot of kids would change the complexion … and the atmosphere of the club,” John Duesler, President of The Valley Swim Club said in a statement.

Well this just can’t be true but … If this were a Republican … ahhhh … never mind.

Club members at the pool certainly may have made some stupid/possibly racist comments (not sure), but I think the reason why the kids were asked to leave was due to club capacity issues.

If you are a member of any club, your version of "100 percent capacity" may be different than management's. Treadmill availability at your local health club comes to mind. If you normally wait five minutes to get a machine, and the club allows a group of kids (50+) to come in and use the equipment just before you arrive, would you be disappointed, mad or annoyed if your wait time became 45 minutes because of all of the kids in line for a treadmill?

My guess is the private club made a decision to work with local camps to improve cash flow due to the economic times, and they did not consider how their members would react.

That type of reaction from obama supporters, TO ME, seems typical.

Magnet schools sure have a tough time getting in affluent Obamasized suburbs in Connecticut, dont they?

On another note, as I heard on the radio driving home last night. Some black kids getting kicked out of a pool makes national news……….did the 50 black kids beating on a handful of whites even come close? It may have, but I don't see it on MSN homepage. Never ceases to amaze me.

I too believe that it probably has to do with the influx of so many children and not race.

We belonged to a pool when my children were small and it was wonderful…nice facility, good value…but…at certain times during the day the camp kids would come charging toward the pool (it was fine…they were excited and they're kids). It was a little scary though to have my 3 small ones by myself (maybe 4,5,6 at the time) with an immediate rush of 20+(?) additional children. But we knew about that WHEN WE JOINED and the price of membership was cheaper than the private pool club (that we joined the following year!)

All that to say…my problem is this…didn't anyone in charge ask how many kids would be coming BEFORE they made the agreement (and took the $$)? Did the board vote? Did they ask the members? What ever happened to common sense? OF COURSE that would change the atmosphere of the club.

All the negativity and confusion about why they got kicked out…something like that can change the course of a child's life and set a particular tone to it. Let's hope the parents do a better job of explaining the situation than the president of the swim club did for kicking them out.

These children are victims of RACISM. OH ! Someone called BS, said "What you talkin' about Willis?" and spoke the truth.

Shame on them who talk the talk but don't walk the walk.

They undermine the influence they THINK they have.

I wish this was a true Republic. But this story proves to us truth seekers that Republic and Democracy have been traded for a Hypocracy.

True Americans would never do this. True Americans say "Give me the ugly truth over the beautiful lie any day of the week. I'll respect you for it and we can get to fixing things."
