Pakistan finally drops charges against 11 year-old Christian girl

I previously wrote about this story back on Aug. 20 and Sept. 2. After being arrested for blasphemy and threatened with death based on the hearsay of a Christian-hating Muslim iman, an 11 year-old girl has been released and the charges dropped.

From the UK Guardian.

A Pakistani Christian girl accused by her neighbours of burning sacred Islamic texts has had blasphemy charges against her dropped by the Islamabad high court.

Rimsha Masih is believed to be one of the few people to escape prosecution under the country’s religious laws, which have been subject to widespread abuse and false accusations.

The initial police report against the girl was quashed this week, more than three months after she was accused of carrying charred Qur’an texts near her house in a poor neighbourhood on the outskirts of Islamabad. The conclusion to the high-profile case came after rare public opposition to a blasphemy case by senior Islamic clerics.

Sympathy has been heightened by claims, which have been questioned by some, that Masih is mentally impaired and has Down’s syndrome. And, in an extraordinary development, three officers from the local mosque accused the neighbourhood’s mullah, Hafiz Mohammed Khalid Chishti, of planting pages of the Muslim holy book among the charred refuse Masih had been carrying to strengthen the case against her.

The radical imam who was arrested after witnesses said the imam set the girl up has been out on bail. Isn’t it interesting that many of the witnesses against the imam have retracted their testimony during the last couple of months?

Nothing to see here…

Thanks for the link. Doesn’t get better than Monty Python. It would be interesting to see their take on sharia “law”.

Radical Islamists are like Democrats, if everyone does it their way, they will accept it.

The Pakis are so dependent on us that we should force them to be reasonable. We should threaten to withdraw a billion in aid unless they release that Doctor who helped us get bin-Ladin. We’ll offer him asylum.

Cancel all foreign aid. Re-institute it on a case-by-case, demand proof that the money and material aid is actually reaching where we intended it to go. Corruption and hatred is a way of life in Pakistan. All that our foreign aid is is Baksheesh. Bribe money.
Stop letting our money, which is borrowed, line the pockets and retirement accounts of corrupt government and military officials.
Let the Doctor emigrate to the United States. Maybe he can bring the little girl and her family here, also. Otherwise, they are dead if they stay in Pakistan.
