One dead, one injured in Chicago school stabbing

The shooting deaths of three teenagers in Chardon, Ohio this week was tragic and received a tremendous amount of press, but in Chicago on Thursday morning two students were stabbed and one of them died at a “therapeutic” alternative school.

Both incidents are devastating to the communities and families involved, but the lack of press concerning the Chicago school stabbing as compared to the shooting deaths at the high school can not just be because three died in Ohio and only one died in Chicago.

The press picks and chooses the stories we see, and in this case we see yet again where gun violence is highlighted, stabbings are not. From NBC Chicago.

One student was killed and another was seriously injured Thursday morning after police said the two were stabbed by another student. The suspected attacker is in custody.

Police said Chris Wormely, of the 4500 block of South Lawler Avenue, and another student were stabbed by another male student at about 7:40 a.m. at AMIKids Infinity Chicago. The facility is a “therapeutic” alternative school formerly known as Goldsmith Public School, at 10211 S. Crandon Ave.

The injured students, both 17, were taken to Advocate Christ Hospital and Medical Center in serious condition. Wormely later died.

Murder charges were filed against TJ Lane in Ohio on Thursday.

Prosecutors on Thursday formally filed murder charges against T. J. Lane, the teenager accused of methodically killing three students and wounding two others in a shooting rampage on Monday in a high school cafeteria east of Cleveland.

Additional results just on the first page of a Goole search when searching for ‘school stabbing deaths.’

Violence leading to death in school – in any form – should not be happening. Evil exists and bad things do happen, but it’s hard for me not to notice the different way stabbings and shootings are dealt with in the media. We can thank anti-gun groups like the Brady Campaign for this.

I wish that the media would spend some time on the underlying causes of violent acts in schools – but more often than not it?does not fit within the talking points.

Maybe stabbings in Chicago’s schools is common vs. shootings in suburbia.

I’m sure race had nothing to do with it.

I just think the media always protects Chicago. Can’t diss President Obama’s home town.? And isn’t Rahm Emanuel, the Mayor??
