Obamacare “re-education”…game on

One would be hard pressed to prepare a “public service announcement”  any more deceitful than that recently released by the Department of Health and Human Services.  Apparently, it’s Secretary Kathleen Sebelius, who hasn’t bothered to either read the bill or any of the myriad of analyses prepared by either the CBO, or the Office of the Actuary for Medicare and Medicaid (OACT).

First the video:

httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cebrxLvzVik&feature=player_embedded

Let me list just a few of the down right falsehoods contained in Ms. Sebelius’s two minute infomercial.

  • You will not have “more control” over your health care.  It will be the federal government that will decide what must be in your insurance plan, not you.  And, if you do not have a “qualified” plan, you will be forced to pay a penalty, or tax, or fine, or whatever the federal government now calls it.
  • You will not be able to keep your health plan if you like, and even the President himself has acknowledged this.  As soon as any change whatsoever is made to your current plan, your plan will no longer be qualified under the bill’s “grandfathering provisions”, and you must either pay a tax to keep the plan you like, or switch to a government approved plan.
  • Obamacare does not strengthen Medicare…it cuts $500 billion from Medicare, and uses that money to cover the cost of providing insurance to those currently uninsured.  The $500 billion can be used either to strengthen Medicare, or to provide insurance to the uninsured, but not both.
  • Obamacare does not cut health care costs.  The mammoth taxes imposed on insurance companies, pharmaceutical manufacturers, and medical device manufacturers alone will do nothing but raise the cost of health care.  Don’t believe me?  Will you believe the CBO or the OACT?

While you are listening to Ms. Sebelius’s fairy tale version of Obamacare, just remember the words of Dr. Donald Berwick, the newly appointed Director for the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid.

I cannot believe that the individual health care consumer can enforce through choice the proper configurations of a system as massive and complex as health care.  That is for leaders to do.

Or,

Young doctors and nurses should emerge from training understanding the value of standardization, and the risks of too great an emphasis on individual autonomy.

That, my friends is your future under Obamacare, and, no amount of “re-education” will change those facts.

As I said earlier today my costs are going up 11% and half that is because of obamacare. But what I find disturbing in the infomercial is at 1:33 they're telling us we will have the same choices as members of congress have. If we have that choice wouldn't that be a cadillac plan and we get charged a penalty?

  2. JollyRoger on August 31, 2010 at 2:35 pm

Well, at least it's, "free"- right?  And why didn't the little kid get to sing an obedience to Obama song at the end of the commercial?  Why is there only one person in a wheel chair, and are the homosexuals represented by the man in the peach shirt, the kid in the sandals, or the effeminate small-framed mulatto man who foisted this whole boondoggle on all of us!?  Mission Accomplished, retreat- redeploy!

TomL, You are brilliant. Of course Congress is exempted form a penalty on their cadillac plan, but you or I won't be. That's fair isn't it?

  4. TomL on August 31, 2010 at 2:42 pm

Don't forget the union exemption. But I'll wait for SOS to confirm

  5. SoundOffSister on August 31, 2010 at 4:08 pm

    TomL,

You are correct.  Union "cadillac"plans are exempt from any penalty until, I believe, 2018.  But, I am shocked to learn that you and Lynn were unable to get your own exemption.  What is this country coming to?

"Free" and "fair", to politicians, are just words.  Or more precisely, concepts to be manipulated in order to gain power.

It is a shame that the lies weren't revealed as fast as the bill was passed.  Or maybe that is why they jammed it down our throats……

"This gradual process means that we can continue to build on what works in our health care system and implement the new law in a thoughtful and deliberate way…" (emphasis added by moi)

There is nothing thoughtful and EVERYthing deliberate about obamacare.  Their idea of "thoughtful" is we can't know what's in the bill til it's passed.

Ahhhh, the thrill of surprise!  ACK!

Can we make Baucus sit in a room and force him to listen to the bill HE wrote?

  9. TomL on September 1, 2010 at 3:37 am

at :42 seconds it claims it will cut costs thru an emphasis on preventing costly illnesses improving the quality of care. I'm left wondering what that emphasis is and how that emphasis will be enforced. I guess we'll be going to re-education camps.

I say we must stand upon our principles that built America. When shall we all rally together rather than hide behind intimidation? For upon these principles I shall stand, no Obamacare however spread with sugar coating will I accept as law. It is upon our Constitution our principles are written into law, it is this law I shall abide by and give my trust in. If any such law is against our supreme law, whoever so penned it did so against the supreme law making it invalid, I shall not abide by it but by our supreme law.

How many Americans will by intimidation abide by an unjust law? How many will stand with me abiding by our supreme law and demand a recant of the unjust movements against us and our supreme law?

Our supreme law is under attack, any such attack is an attack against us. If a bullet flew past your head would you surrender or would you discover and fight your attacker? We are Americans, be wise and honorable.

    Weregettinghosed, I second the emotion!

    TomL,

As to the bill "will cut costs by an emphasis on preventing costly illnesses", the Office of the Actuary for Medicare and Medicaid has said that any impact on costs will be negligible.  Basically, although less money may be spent treating an ilness when caught in its early stages, more money will be spent as a result of the increased screening/testing necessary to catch things in an early stage.  And as ghoulish as it may sound, according to the OACT, catching illnesses at an early stage will increase life expectancy, with the resulting extra costs needed during those increased years.  Here's the link, and their analysis on this point begins on page 10.

  16. winnie888 on September 1, 2010 at 1:09 pm

@SOS…and any costly illnesses that cleverly sneak through the screening process will be handled by the death panels, I presume?

  17. TomL on September 1, 2010 at 1:13 pm

SOS how do you do it, I got a headache on the 1st page. Make your bro pay you.

  18. SoundOffSister on September 1, 2010 at 3:12 pm

    TomL,

How do I do it?  I want people to know the facts.  Once they know the facts, they are free to draw their own conclusions, whatever those conclusions may be.  But without the facts, no conclusion is worth a darn.

  21. Law-AbidingCitizen on September 2, 2010 at 4:29 am

Once again obama, et al, are pushing this "health care" mandate as if there is some choice by consumers. Ultimately, there will only be the "single payer option" for individuals which will mean that only the government will control health care. This is a BAD IDEA!

  22. sammy22 on September 2, 2010 at 6:18 am

I find it amusing that before the bill was passed the postings dealt w/ high principles like the Constitution, State's rights etc. After passage of the bill the postings deal w/ what people did not get, like the same plan as the Congressmen and generally how we're "getting hosed". I wanted the public option, the abolition of writing off premiums by employers and consultations on "end of life issues". I guess I "got hosed too".

  23. Dimsdale on September 3, 2010 at 6:20 am

We are ALL getting hosed, sammy.  Putting your trust in pols is like putting on a cement life preserver.
