Obama and DNC targeting campaign ads against Romney in Florida
This is a bit interesting, and a prime opportunity for some speculation. I finally fixed my RSS reader to catch up with Power Line’s blog, and caught this from yesterday. We’ve got a lot of liberal and DNC advertising money dumped into Florida targeting Romney, not Gingrich.
From what I read, it’s almost like the general election has already started and the Obama campaign is going up against Romney before the GOPs selection is apparent.

Republican presidential candidate Newt Gingrich has an unlikely ally this week in his Florida primary battle against Mitt Romney: the Democratic National Committee.
The Democrats are targeting Mitt Romney as if he were already the Republican nominee running against President Barack Obama, with campaign ads, Internet videos, daily news conferences and dozens of news releases attacking the former Massachusetts governor.
Traditional Democratic partners are jumping in, too. Both theAmerican Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees’ and Service Employees International Union’s political-action committees are running their own TV commercials in Florida this week — attacking Romney.
Gingrich and the other two Republican candidates, former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum and Texas U.S.Rep. Ron Paul, are being all but ignored by the DNC and its allies.
Romney supporters will point to these ads and pronounce the Obama camp is so concerned about going against him, they are starting the campaign targeting him early. Hewitt notes…
The Chicago Rules at work. Obama fears Romney so he is trying to eliminate him early. In the old days it would be called a “dirty trick,” but MSM loves the president and won’t criticize his operation.
Speculation Time…
Nancy Pelosi is either totally out of the DNC loop, or she just got the message the Obama campaign wants to take on Gingrich and not Romney. Why has she – twice in the past 60 days – dropped a hint that she knows something about Newt that she would love to share with the media? She’s full-out giddy about the whole thought of letting loose.
This drives me to my big concern about Gingrich. With all the back-and-forth about his love/hate relationship with Reagan, plus his lie about offering a bunch of sources to ABC to refute the I-want-an-open-marriage charge, we’ve got to wonder. Skeletons. Closet.
I’m thinking the DNC and Obama has a plan to go up against Gingrich, they think the plan is el perfecto and would guaranty a landslide. Maybe it contains an October surprise, maybe not. Either way, it seems Pelosi has the playbook and might be having a tough time keeping a lid on it.
With this said, I want to point out we are spending way too much time fretting over the Executive Branch. Sure, it’s damn important to get – if not a conservative – a Republican in the White House, and sure, the House and Senate races have not gotten heated up yet, but we need to spend more effort on putting more conservatives into the Congress. We can so so much if we have firm control of both the House and Senate again.

It’s obvious to me that the Obama campaign really wants to run against Romney, which says volumes about their strategy… and what they think of Mitt Romney. ?This is a good reason to nominate someone other than Mitt, and give these Chicago hacks a well deserved kick in the butt!
I’m confused.? You say it’s obvious that Obama wants to run against Romney but all I’ve seen from Obama’s campaign are criticisms of Romney. So now the Dems are pouring significant dollars in anti-Romney ads in Florida; doesn’t that signify that they want him to lose Florida and the nomination? If that’s not the case, why waste the money?
My premise is they are attacking Romney now because they would rather go head-to-head with Newt in the general election. They are trying (speculation) to manipulate the GOP primaries. I think the Obama campaign and DNC have a plan they think will work really well against Newt, Pelosi knows what the plan is, and she has – twice in the past 60 days – gotten all giddy about it, she’s really looking forward to having Newt in the general against Obama. Sorry if I was not clear.
Steve – You were very clear in your post. I was just trying to understand what Eric was saying – i.e., that the Democrats want Romney to be the nominee. I don’t know what evidence there is to support that.
You got that right Eric. Job one is getting him out of the WhiteWash House.? Steve has a good point. While the president can set the tone for the country, he can’t pass laws. He can propose them, he can sign executive orders and he can use the veto, but he is dependent on the Congress. We need to get as many conservatives as is possible into the Congress. Yes, the DNC and the Zero want to run against Romney. He’s very vulnerable. The candidates have given the Dems so much material to use and Obama has $60+ million to spend.
Good points, but remember: it will be “old news” to a point, whereas ?bama’s record is a cornucopia of failure; lots of low hanging, ripe fruit begging for an ad campaign!

Steve: clap, clap.? For sure, Obama wants to run against Newt and you made an excellent point that, more to the point, it’s the lawmakers that need to be replaced – get out the entrenched of both parties.? Keep the energetic, new ones who have vision, passion, decency, and are “governed” by a moral compass…throw the rest out (my dream – sigh).
