Non-union help not welcome
This is almost too ridiculous to believe… in the wake of Hurricane Sandy’s devastation, help has been turned away. Yes, you read that correctly, and can read about it here.
Power crews from Alabama drove to the town of Seaside, New Jersey to help restore electricity to thousands of folks without power. When they got there, though, they were told to go home because they were non-union. Apparently, the local IBEW (International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers) took umbrage at the fact that the Alabama crews didn’t “wear the union label”.
Are you kidding me?
People have been without power, and perhaps heat, for days. Do you think they care who restores their power?
Please, someone who firmly believes that unions are good, honest and noble, explain to the rest of us how this conduct is either good, honest, or noble.

This story continues to evolve. It appears the crew out of Decatur was shaken down by an IBEW union rep in Virginia in a staging area. While waiting for guidance from home, they received word that Seaside Heights sent word they had all the help they needed. Seaside Heights, like Decatur, runs its own co-op municipal electric utility. After being held up a day and unable to secure a definite location to work, the Decatur folks came home. The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers has a history of thuggery and violence so I don’t doubt they had someone messing with non-union crews at the staging area. Not all union members are idiots, however. Alabama Power crews are union and are up there. One NJ resident posted on APCo’s Facebook page praise for their friendliness and helpfulness getting her power restored.

Sammy are you speaking in “tongues”? ?Communication means you convey an opinion. I guess by your remark you don’t have one. That’s too bad, because I enjoy hearing your opinion.
Unions are for unions,first & foremost,members next & those that pay them much further down the line.

Lynn, the post stirs up a pot that doesn’t need to be stirred. There is enough pain and suffering going on that we could take a break from “politics”.
The pot was stirred by IBEW and no one else.
I think everyone needs a break from the nasty, personal attacks by candidates, instead of discussing how they would solve problems for their constituents. However, I read this blog precisely because it examines political issues. I would like to know why a government official either ?local or state did not intervene to stop the union from turning away help. ?Emergency relief efforts are usually overseen by elected officials. So, I guess I see the value of looking at the politics of this case. If I were suffering ?from the devastation of Sandy, I would expect my elected officials to protect and help me and it would determine my vote in the future.?
Lynn, the post is a swipe at union/non-union, and according to Tim, the Ala Power crews are in NJ helping. That was not good enough for SOS.
Apparently, it wasn’t good enough for the NJ unions, who put themselves ahead of those in dire need.
These unions are almost exclusively Obama supporters, and he is a strong supporter of them in return.
Which also explains why his other pack of flying monkeys, the liberal press, has buried the story.
Maybe the should ask the people affected by the hurricane if it is a big deal or not. ?Don’t hold your breath waiting for that expose….?

Seriously?? Right, “burying something” that “goes properly?” And this thread is about the exact opposite, which is messed up and wrong – and the story is actually being buried by the progressive media, making sure as many people as possible DONT see the thuggery.? So you’ll excuse that, because something went properly somewhere else where the union thugs had other union thugs helping them out, no problem there!

The non-union Huntsville Utilities is a separate company than unionized Alabama Power, if that is helpful.???
