New Radio Vice Online look for smart phones

We’re experimenting with a new view for those of you visiting the site using your smart phone. You won’t see it unless you access the site with your iPhone, iTouch, some Blackberries, Android, or the Palm Pre, but if you do visit using a mobile device, you’ll see a very streamlined look.

I’ve been messing with this and testing for the last two weeks or so, but I certainly have not checked everything. Note that you will not be able to see the site’s sidebar in most instances and I know Chatroll will not work properly so I’m not even listing the Live page in a list of pages you can access from the menu.

I think it is pretty cool if you are on the road or sitting in one of those really boring meetings and want to do some browsing of Radio Vice Online and check out the most recent posts. When you access the site, you’ll simply see the most recent post on top of the list, access the post, and read the comments. I’ve got the log in and comments turned off since they are not working for me – probably due to the plug in we use for comments.

We will not be able to get certain features to work, but if something is seriously broken please send us a note and we’ll look into it.

This plug in is relatively new and is gaining in popularity. I installed it purely for selfish reasons to make it easier to see the current posts when I’m not using a full browser on a desktop or laptop. You can switch to the regular view by scrolling down to the bottom of any page and tapping the on switch for the Mobile Theme option. (Don’t try to slide it on, tap it.)

Hi Steve, Jon here from Chatroll – great to hear you've made Radio Vice Online accessible on mobile. Re: your Live page, we're committed to making Chatroll the only fully compatible live chat solution for iPhone, BlackBerry, and Android. From what we've experienced so far, audiences love participating via Chatroll on mobile devices. This would definitely make a great addition to RVO and let even more listeners/viewers participate during the show. Please feel free to get in touch if you need any assistance getting the live chat and/or the Live page up and running.

Jon – thanks for the note. I've activated the Live page in the menu so you can see what is happening if you access with a smart phone. The text box (iframe) for Chatroll is crunched (not tall enough). Sent you a screenshot. In the menu the page is called "Listen & Watch Live".

The website's content and articles were migrated to a new framework in October 2023. You may see [shortcodes in brackets] that do not make any sense. Please ignore that stuff. We may fix it at some point, but we do not have the time now.

You'll also note comments migrated over may have misplaced question marks and missing spaces. All comments were migrated, but trackbacks may not show.

The site is not broken.
