New Haven mayor would rather see you murdered before allowing you to legally carry a gun

Mayor John DeStefano Jr. (D) does not think you have the right to protect yourself. Quit honestly, he’d rather see you be a victim of a crime or outright murdered before allowing you to legally carry a concealed or open weapon.

I’m certain he thinks the police are the there to protect you, but that’s patently false since the police do not have a Constitutional duty to protect someone. Multiple law enforcement officers were located at the theater in Aurora, Colo. and that did not stop what happened. When seconds counted, police were more than a minute away. From The Hartford Courant.

“Just because something is legal, it doesn’t make it right,” Mayor John DeStefano Jr. said at the news conference with Esserman on Wednesday. “Just like we don’t want people to go into a theater and yell ‘Fire!’ we don’t expect people to go into a movie theater with a gun.”

Mayor, where else don’t you expect people to go with a gun? The mall? The public park? A restaurant? Just admit that you want to ban all weapons and repeal the Second Amendment already will you?

DeStefano and the New Haven police chief are now now making up new laws as they go. Is that OK with you? It’s not OK with me.

Sung-Ho Hwang (his name is now really out there in the public and I screwed up listing his last name in my previous post) was not just exercising is Second Amendment rights, he was doing something that was completely legal and he was taking a specific step to protect himself. Just because he made a few people uncomfortable is not grounds for 20 officers to point their guns at you.

We only have the police version here and supposedly he did not follow the commands of officers and he’s being charged for being uncooperative. Note, that I would suggest everyone be cooperative with law enforcement.

People call 911 when they are uncomfortable and in this case there was no brandishing, and no threatening. The 911 call should have gone like this. (My interpretation.)

Caller: There is someone here at the theater and they are carrying a gun.

911: Are they brandishing the weapon or threatening anyone?

Caller: No.

911: Well, carrying openly in Connecticut is legal, but if you are the manager of the theater you have the right to ask the person to leave. If he does not leave, give us a call and we’ll give him a trespass ticket or warning.

There are many things people do on a regular basis that can make people uncomfortable. There was a case in Connecticut which – I think – went to the Connecticut Supreme Court. (No time to look it up, maybe the Sound Off Sister can find it.) A guy was driving his car up and down a street slowly looking out the window. He happened to pass a couple of younger girls walking on the sidewalk (multiple times) and the girls became very uncomfortable. The man was arrested and charged with something … not sure what.

Sounds like a stalker or child predator right?

The guy was looking for a specific address and he could not find it. He was doing something that was perfectly legal to do and making someone uncomfortable. Was a call to law enforcement necessary? Maybe. Was an arrest warranted? No.

Not so ironically, you are more likely to be murdered by one of DeStefano’s protected illegal aliens than a legal gun.

Mayor John? presides over the third (or is it fourth?) most dangerous city in America.? Is he trying for first place?

Gee, Mayor DeStefano, maybe Mr. Hwang would not have NEED to legally carry a weapon if you would do your job as Mayor and keep New Haven safe and free of crime.? Instead, the crimes are escalating under your leadership, murders are rampant.? Maybe, he would not have to carry if you, Governor Malloy, would do your job and keep this state safe but instead you are releasing thousands of convicts early setting them free on the streets of such cities of the Elm City.? Maybe, Mr. President, Mr. Hwang would not need to carry a LEGAL weapon if you would do your job and protect our borders from the hoards of drug cartel slowly taking over our country.
Mr. Hwang did everything by the book, he was legally carrying; it does not matter about feelings, ethics, moral choices as many in the media are touting this.? He was acting responsibly in his own right to carry; his only mistake was not cooperating with law enforcement who requested him to put hands in the air…But why should he be asked to put his hands in the air if he had NOT done anything wrong to begin with?

Once again the needs & rights of the “illegals” & “criminals” outweigh those of law-abiding, tax-paying, honorable citizens.? The world is upside-down.

For a state that manufactures hundreds of thousands of guns a year, why are some of its citizens such pantywaists if they see one?

Add to the irony the fact that in the state of Connecticut anyone over 21 can buy a black powder percussion revolver equal in power to a Colt 45 with no background check of any kind.? Just as deadly and totally unregulated (Not that I mind) – go figure. ?

The night of the event, the local news showed Mr. Hwang’s mug shot…he looked like a deranged gang member! Then, the next night, they showed him speaking: Well spoken, calm, and seemingly quite intelligent. I hope he sues the pants off of NH.

I have lived in New Haven; it has always been a dangerous place. It is a transit point for drugs, illegal weapons and immigrants and more. Being a port city served by major highways, New Haven is an ideal place to transship contraband. The area police departments always seemed to be embroiled in something inappropriate. Perfect for criminal enterprises to flourish.
    ?
Rampant drugs, assaults, muggings, robberies, break-ins, and murder were daily and commonplace. And still are. Most decent people have moved out to the burbs. Those who remain have a siege mentality. The city itself has a palpable air of malevolence.
    ?
Perhaps the oh-so-liberal mayor would like to live in one of his sanctuary neighborhoods? Without a gun or his bodyguards.

excellent post…… can you believe this dolt has been in office for over 20 years?

    • ricbee on August 10, 2012 at 11:29 pm

Yeah, let’s see him on the Green at 10:00 without a shooter.

Hiz Onnor would need the entire SWAT Team and a full turn-out of the NHPD to provide security, more so now that the Occupy Idiots are gone. Or, are they?
      ?
But, remember that the democrat Potty Line is to blame guns.

      ?
