Matthews: Don’t pressure illegal aliens with law enforcement interaction, they might get mad

Hardball’s Chris Matthews thinks illegal aliens will really freak out and possibly attack the police officer if there is a chance they could be taken away from his or her family. He’s got the nerve to call it a moral predicament … yup, a moral predicament would cause someone to attack or kill a cop.

Matthews: A police officer would be put in tremendous jeopardy it seems to me if the person in that car knows they are illegal, it’s not against [?] to them. A person being stopped who is in this country illegal knows it. Knows the jeopardy they face if a police officer stops them.

Wouldn’t that put a tremendous moral pressure on that person, a moral predicament? Do I let myself be deported, separated from my family, or do I knock this policeman down and run away, or drive away, or something?

Matthew’s is correct when he notes the start of the solution is to secure the borders and ensure employers are only hiring legal workers, but that is not what the federal government is doing. They certainly do not seem to be taking the necessary steps to secure the border, and they are cutting down enforcement at the employer level, except for an occasional raid for positive press coverage.

What the open borders crowd wants is … well … open borders, and Chris Matthews does not think the “hopeless right-wingers” out there are serious. Goodness grief, he’s convinced the only reason why illegal aliens cross the border is to get a job.

To be fair here, the transcripts from last night are not available on the MSNBC site yet, and the following video does seem to be clipped/edited. It’s a good possibility Jim’s got the full video.

Update: Hat tip to Steve at Sweetness & Light. Mathew’s is obviously pro-amnesty and part of the you-can’t-just-ask-them-to-leave crowd, as is, not surprisingly, La Raza and the New York Times.

"They certainly do not seem to be taking the necessary steps to secure the border, and they are cutting down enforcement at the employer level,"

The truth is Obama is sending 1200 national guard to the borders on aug, 1. Also sending aircraft, including helicopters and 300 border workers.

The administration's crack-down on employers who hire illegals has been said to be "Bush on steroids".

If so, then more power to him.  I wonder why he had to wait until the months preceding the election?  It is a shame that he couldn't work with Arizona instead of against it.

      Time will tell.

So, Sunday is the day that Obama is going to strengthen our border defenses?  I'll believe that when I see it. If  cares soooooooo much about border security, then why sue Arizona for their law duplicating federal immigration law?

August 1st ain't happening!  Looks like Obama pushed the date back to October 1st now.  I knew it, I knew it, I knew it.  The guy is a lousy liar…

    • Dimsdale on August 2, 2010 at 6:50 pm

Yes, it is August 2, and the Arizona media is already reporting how Øbama has once again dropped the ball (http://www.kgun9.com/Global/story.asp?S=12913619)

Strange how that worked out, isn't it, Dims?  I must be psychic because I knew it wouldn't happen…either that or I've been paying attention and listening and see this guy's track record as a liar extraordinaire.  Either way, I called it on 7/30 @ 4:59 a.m. and sometimes it's nice to be correct…excuse me, "right".  😀

It is remarkable that it is now law enforcement that is in jeopardy in an arrest, not the arrestee.

Here is more proof that neither party cares about the American people.

Now Bush SAID he wanted secure borders, but what came of that? Nothing.  And from border state Senators John McCain and Harry Reid – crickets!!   Did Clkinton or George Sr. say anything?

Hey Chris, when you get frustrated that the Feds are not listening to you and your solutions, you will have joined the rest of us.  Illegals get mad and act out – ha.  What next?  Amnesty?  Then the influx will become a flood.  Then and only then will you say oh $#!^, they'll be moving to my neighborhood.  And those of you who sput diversity will say – hey we are all equal but separate, how about reparations- we give you Texas and you all staye there of south.

How about this.  Grow a backbone, uphold the law, punish the business owners who hire and promote this, have them pick up the tab for the illegals until they can be properly legalized.  Oh yeah – If in fact we are nation building instead of kicking terrorist butt, bring the troops home and stick them on the border to keep out the drugs and criminals and direct immigrants to the proper INS offices.

Steve, if the feds want to make a big bust here in CT with the goal being positive press coverage, all they need to do is go to the casinos…If there was one illegal immigrant (the one responsible for killing my sister-in-law was Guatemalan) there are bound to be just a few more.  The restaurant he was working for should have been raided immediately.

Anyone who thinks it's just the border states that are affected negatively by illegals had better take off their rose-colored glasses and wake up.  Anyone who thinks it's just Mexicans jumping the fence…helllllooooo?  Don't think your family could be affected by this issue?  Think again.

Matthews is a "hopeless", bleeding-heart, liberal windbag.  He doesn't listen to the people he's interviewing and dishonors the memory of those killed by illegal immigrants and those who do their best to protect the U.S. borders every day.

Arizona should be left alone .They are in an impossible situation made more so by this stupid law suit. The country needs to help Arizonan's not hinder them.

The best way to stop the illegals is to impose jail time for anyone who hires them .This won't happen because businesses buy politicians. As I said a million times before, the average American is screwed when big money is involved. That's why I wouldn't get all warm and fuzzy thinking the Republicans will come in and "save" us.As shown historically they will not say no to big money and neither will the Dems.

I could not agree more.  "Follow the money" has a lot of meanings here.
