Los Angeles really goes over deep end – demands office space for day laborers

Imagine this. You own a business on a street where a illegal aliens tend to congregate. Illegal aliens – and probably some U.S. citizens – hang out there in hopes of someone driving by and offering them a few hours of work.

These gathering places have developed from coast to coast. Since many of these day laborers work construction and landscape jobs, they tend to hang out near big-box retailers like Home Depot and Lowes.

Now imagine your town passing an ordinance that requires you – the law abiding business owner – to construct a building that provides shelter, bathrooms, trash cans, drinking water, Internet access, English tutoring, free long distance calls, a copy machine and a Western Union office to the day laborers.

I’m exaggerating about the last five items on the list, but the Los Angeles City Council doesn’t think that stealing tax dollars to provide city services to illegal aliens is enough “support” for this group anymore.

Since some citizens are starting to express their displeasure about how their tax dollars are spent, Los Angeles is implementing the Jessie Jackson shakedown plan. Walk into the corporate offices of the big-box retail outlets and let them know if they want to build a new store in the area, they have to provide land and build office space for the day laborers.

Want to do business in LaLa Land? Pony up – you’ve got plenty of cash.

Malkin tipped me on to this story today, and the Los Angeles Times provides the following, with my emphasis added.

The ordinance mandates that proposed big-box stores obtain conditional-use permits, which could then require them to build day-labor centers with shelter, drinking water, bathrooms and trash cans.

Councilman Bernard C. Parks, who first proposed the ordinance four years ago, said that this was just the first phase and that he planned to address existing home improvement stores next. He said the businesses needed to be held accountable for their role in attracting dayworkers.

The businesses need to be held accountable for their role in attracting illegal aliens looking for work? Are you friggin’ kidding me councilman?

When will the federal government be held accountable for not securing our borders?

When will sanctuary cities be held accountable for violating federal law?

When will mayors like Gavin Newsom and city councils from other sanctuary cities be held accountable for conspiracy to commit murder?

Outrageous. Glad to see someone else as fired up as me. I guess we need to add "screws loose" to "Land of the Nuts and Fruits".

On the bright side, these worksites will now become more attractive to the growing number of unemployed Americans.
