Why don't one of you just take a gun and shoot me? Because shooting me would be more humane than leaving me in the horrible pain and sickness that I experience every single day due to lack of healthcare. You want to save money? I have a highly treatable chronic illness. People with my illness who receive treatment work, take care of their families and are productive. I can no longer work at the career that I poured 15 years of my blood, sweat and tears into developing because I can't get treatment for my illness. My 401k was gone within 13 months of becoming ill, and I had DOUBLE health insurance coverage. Insurance companies always manage to wriggle out of providing healthcare for people because they are FOR PROFIT. Which means they earn money by denying healthcare to people. It costs three times as much every month to support me on social services than what it would cost to just treat my illness and get me healthy enough to work. Someone just shoot me because I would rather be dead than be this sick and in this much pain and be completely useless to my children, my family and my friends.
What do you expect people to say when you start off with a sentence like that? May I suggest you get off the Internet and go find some help?
Insurance companies really do pay out claims, and occasionally they don't cover certain items as listed in their certificates of coverage. If you think a non-profit or government run system will be better for you, I'll simply disagree and leave it at that. Maybe you think doctors and nurses should also work for minimum wage?
I'm familiar with health insurance, but have no idea what you mean when you say you had "double" health insurance.
As you've said, you are now being supported by the government – social services – and I assume your health care coverage is now covered by Medicare or Medicaid. It certainly does not sound like the government's program – certainly a non-profit – is working too well for you now is it? So the government is spending three times as much as it would cost them to treat you effectively?

Sincerest condolences for your pain and suffering, In Pain. Did you ever consider that if the government simply took care of individuals like you, which amount to about a real 15 million or so once you purge those that choose not to get insurance and illegal aliens, instead of wasting time, effort and money uprooting and effectively destroying the current health care insurance system, you might be getting coverage now, instead of 5 – 10 years from now, when the so called public option is supposed to take effect? What do you think the insurance related qualifications of the legislators are?
That is what we are complaining about. Nobody here is trying to deny you coverage. We just know that the current proposals are ill conceived, shortsighted, expensive and probably ineffective. I live in Massachusetts, and the public health insurance they have here, a small scale version of what the Democrats want to apply to everyone, is already bankrupt after just a few years. They are already talking cuts, higher taxes and rationed care. Sound familiar? It should, because it is precisely the same things that they are complaining about from the private health care companies.
According to my relatives in Great Britain, socialized, single payer medical care is worse that what you are getting here. They have had to come here for timely and high quality care. I have friends from Canada in the same position. There is no guarantee that even with the current proposals, you would even get care, because, despite what the Democrats want you to believe, everybody won't be covered. It has been documented and verified.
I think Jim could better enlighten you about the difficulties of chronic illness and dealing with health insurance companies.
Taking the Red pill or seeing Dr Kavorkian….that is in the Obama plan. Maybe Jim will play his violin for your sob story, but I fail to have any sympathy for a bogus sob story. Insurance companies do not make profit by denying treatments. They would lose clients and money very fast if policy holders found their legitimate claims were being denied. If insurance companies are making large profits, it proves that a lot of people are very satisfied with the service and are getting their health needs met. Insurance works so well you should try it, but unfortunately you seem to cheap a skin flint to buy anything that will reward the people who are of good service to you with a profit. How sad. I have more pity for the poor waitress who fills your coffee cup with foolish expections of receiving a fair tip.
