Larson gets more than expected at Mediscare “Town Hall” meeting

We told you Friday we thought it a bit unusual that Congressman John Larson (D,1, CT) chose to hold his “mediscare” town hall meeting at a Newington senior center. Ostensibly the meeting was to set up to fill seniors in on Republican Congressman Paul Ryan’s proposed changes to Medicare. Set aside the fact Ryan’s changes are designed to save Medicare which will be broke in just a decade, but not a single senior will be affected by Paul Ryan’s program (no one over 54 will be affected by proposed changes to Medicare). Attendees apparently were less than impressed and the questions less than friendly.

Here’s a first person account from RightPrinciples.com’s Bob McGuffie.

Jim,
We rocked him for two hours.  He came in very partisan, placing blame for all things wrong with the economy at the feet of GWB and the Republicans.  Would not recognize the unsustainability of Medicare.  Plenty of class warfare against the rich – disgusting.  We interrupted him, corrected him and motivated plenty of seniors to chime in early.  His straight-faced solution for Medicare is eliminate fraud/waste, contain costs, and go back to the Clinton tax rates.  Most of the questions were critical.  There were even a group of LaRouche people giving him hell about the bailouts.  He didn’t expect it going in, but he got an earful.  He can be nasty, we’ve seen it before – he raises his voice dictatorial style – Mussolini would be proud – ha!  Hopefully he’ll re-tool for the next one cause from his team’s perspective this had to be a disaster.  We took video and that should circulate over the weekend.

That’s always a good one … blame Bush. This isn’t so devastating since Larson lives in a rock solid D district. But it does give you a good idea of how Dems intend to demonize Ryan’s plan. Scare the seniors (who will NOT be affected), blame Bush(never gets old, heh?), and then keep driving the country toward the cliff.

“This isn?t so devastating since Larson lives in a rock solid D district”

    Weeping!

One question for “blame it on Bush and Ryan” Larson: where is your plan?? You know, the one that acknowledges the impending demise of Medicare and takes real steps to fix it?? What is his solution, to hurry up and wait for the vagaries of the unconstitutional ?bamacare legislation to kick in (didja even read that one, John, while you were greasing politicians to pass it before any of them could read it?), or just to continue with the talking point tirade against someone that actually bit the bullet and took on the problem?
    ?
It is this political “don’t fix it if it isn’t broke even though it is clearly broke” mentality that is driving this country off the cliff, not the grandmas.

Perhaps John Larson will have union firefighters there next time to douse the flames when his straw man argument it torched by the truth.

  4. sammy22 on May 30, 2011 at 12:23 pm

Ryan’s plan has a long way to go. And, judging from his “defense” of it on Morning Joe last week, his arguments are starting to lose “clarity”.

So how does Larson defend his plan ?..Oh yeah,?he doesn’t have one.
Seems to me that if the dems passed?a budget last fall, as they should have,?when they had total control of the federal gov’t……Oh never mind?

Hey GdavidH, changing the subject as usual. Larson at least has not put out a “Larson Plan”. Both sides will keep at each others throat and most likely NOT SOLVE THE PROBLEM!

If Larson is so rock-solid why is he out there sweating? Maybe Obama promised him some big gig.

Sort of how they expect to win the next election. Same as the last one. Fear mongering, twisted truths and blame the previous administration. Sadly, the taxtakers, (and there are many of them) will buy into it. Mostly because they have lots to gain by keeping the libs in control.

I don’t understand why anybody would vote for a clown like this. Doesn’t say much for the kind of Democrats that grow here in CT.

Larson is a phony. He is is not what he claims to be. When I contacted his office this past April and sent him a letter via his fax line, he was not responsive. What I told him was that I received 4 rejections from doctors here in my hometown of Southington, CT when applying for new patient status. The common phrase was: “our office is not taking MEDICARE patients at this time”. When I was told that, I called his office and sent a letter – also faxed him. I have not heard from him or his office. Larson is a lifer, he will occupy his office until he is forced to give it up. Voters of CT can do so much better by not electing this guy time and time again. As for contacting him, I also sent the same letters to Senator Blumenthal………..go figure.

I’ve not trusted Larson ever since he couldn’t, or wouldn’t, answer questions about his involvment in the Colonial Realty scam.

    John who?

  13. phil on May 31, 2011 at 10:34 am

Larson looks like…. Chris Dodd, who looks like??? Ted Kennedy.? OMG!! We’re cloning democrats!? No wonder there’s so many of them!!

  14. GdavidH on May 31, 2011 at 4:19 pm

Sammy please…..Changing the subject??????? Give me 1 example of my comments changing the subject where I did not acknowledge that I was intending to go?”off topic”. Typical liberal/Alinsky tactic. You’ve learned well.

This whole debate?morphed to this point because the dems?skipped the budget requirement?last fall and Obama’s proposed budget was thrashed/trashed?in the dem senate 97-0. This is the continuation of the continuing resolutions/spending cuts?debate

  15. sammy22 on May 31, 2011 at 5:32 pm

Which debate are you talking about,? GdavidH? The post was about Larson’s town hall mtg, not the budget proposed last fall. And besides, the proposed budget was NOT thrashed, it was not even debated in the Senate!

  16. PatRiot on May 31, 2011 at 7:31 pm

Larson may be sticking to his story, but I am SURE he heard the message.?
We will know for sure when Janet Napolitano puts non-AARP seniors on the terror watch list.?

  17. Lynn on June 1, 2011 at 8:03 am

Just saw a great youtube of this. Go Jen! Well I’m not in LArson’s district anymore but Courteney is no better.? Blue velvet

  18. andy@american on June 1, 2011 at 1:55 pm

Lynn, Im in Joe C’s district also. I emailed him yesterday about the oil speculators (he and Larson are on the “its the speculators fault” bandwagon. If thats the case, I asked him are they the reason gas prices go down to say the levels in 2009? Im anxious for a response. Its unfortunate, politics has become primarily a blame game. Sad but true.

  19. Lynn on June 1, 2011 at 5:24 pm

Andy, I’m not an expert here, but I hear the reason the gas prices are going up is the value or non value of the dollar. The yen is valued much higher. There is a glut of oil on the market so it is not supply and demand driving this.? Andy you and I are going to get trashed big time because we are off subject. Hopefully no one is reading this post anymore

This is for John Larson so he can learn something, he was probably there to hear it but?he?doesn’t want to?learn anything

    Ryan is Presidential material.

  21. brianh on June 2, 2011 at 12:41 pm

I believe Chairman Ryan went 5 minutes without a teleprompter (or notes, even?)

  22. TomL on June 2, 2011 at 3:01 pm

    BrianH you noticed that.
