I need not follow the law…

I’m the President.

On Friday, the President (through Department of Homeland Security Secretary, Janet Napalitano) announced that he knows better than Congress, and the people, for that matter.  Of course, at the time of the announcement, the President was winging his way on Air Force 1 to an exclusive Martha’s Vineyard resort, while most Americans were wondering whether they could afford to fill up their gas tanks to get to work, assuming they had a job.

The President’s edict goes as follows.

We have some 300,000 illegal immigrants in the deportation “pipe line”.  Because that is way too large (for the President’s bloated government) to handle, deportation rules are henceforth changed.  If any of those 300,000 illegal immigrants have not committed a crime in this country, we will ignore the fact that they committed a crime getting into this country.

Not only that, those illegal immigrants, who pass this test, will have a chance to later apply for a work permit.

If all of this sounds vaguely familiar, it is.  It’s called the “Dream Act”.

In December, 2010, knowing that the Republicans soon would control the House, the President urged passage of the “Dream Act”.  Even though, at the time, Democrats controlled every branch of the government, the “Dream Act” went down in flames.  This was not good, not if the President wanted to remain the President after the 2012 election.

So, this edict is nothing more than the President trolling for votes.

We have serious illegal immigration issues in this country, but, they cannot be solved by a Presidential edict that is designed solely to get the President reelected.

-? Glaring disregard for the law !? What next from the man, “Let them eat cake.”? ? ! ? !
He needs his executive war powers rescinded and a full briefing on respect for law.
-?? The illegals are no better than slaves.? It is simple – It isn’t American !
Their employers need to be:??1.? Fined.? 2.??Tasked with sponsoring (paying full freight) the illegals through the naturalization process.? 3. Responsible for repatriating the illegals.

    • kateinmaine on August 23, 2011 at 12:20 pm

you are assuming that they are employed.? what percentage of that group rely on the largesse of the american people?? by implementing your model, the government would have to step up and set the example–which puts them right back to square one–having to deport ‘voters’.

    • Lynn on August 23, 2011 at 4:16 pm

PatRiot, While I usually agree with you, there are two issues I have with your post. President Obama cannot say “Let them eat cake” because Michelle would disapprove. (sarcasm)
However, employers don’t always know they have hired an illegal. False identity papers were being sold in New Haven and really all over. Employers have no time to check out whether they are valid ID. We really don’t need employers to be paying anymore fines. We are happy there are employers. But for those employers who knowingly transport illegals here to hire them at slave wages and take jobs away. Throw the book at them.

ps–nice clip sos–that’s the best pic of o yet–really captures his essence!

    Can anyone say…..Dictator!
When will America wake up and see this president for what he is: a statist.? He circumvents the constitution, the congress, the SCOTUS for his, and his administrations, ideological plan.
Under his rule, the congress no longer writes laws, the laws are made and enforced through the Departments of Energy, HHS, Labor, Education, etc.
Welcome to the Banana Republic of America.

  4. RoBrDona on August 23, 2011 at 1:59 pm

I have been calling him O’Hoover lately but he more closely resembles NH-Jim’s spot-on characterization. (A late-model central-american dictator) Congress for all their faults, and they are myriad, are having to not recess so he can’t make an end-run around them and appoint clearly flawed personal friends to various posts. You think they don’t have his number? He has proven time and again to happily throw friends and foes alike under the bus to insure that he remains blameless for the screw-up du jour. (Or in the cast of Justice just ignore the issues) Even if you like his socialist-playbook politics, which I find reprehensible, it is dawning on the part of America that actually thinks that they voted in a?guy who has?no empathy,?morals or emotional grounding at all. Scary.

The DREAM in the DREAM Act is an acronym for “Development, Relief and Education of Alien Minors Act”. It was supposed to give the opportunity for minors, who were brought by their parents into the US illegally, and have lived in the US, gone to school, graduated, served in the military etc., etc. a path to citizenship. This is not quite what is reported above by SOS.

    • SoundOffSister on August 23, 2011 at 9:10 pm

So, all of those “minors, who were brought by their parents into the US illegally, and have lived in the US, gone to school, graduated, served in the military etc.” now get a free pass if they are one of those current, or future 300,000 scheduled for deportation. Isn’t that the Dream Act?

    • Dimsdale on August 24, 2011 at 11:30 am

According to your list, haven’t the children of illegals already gotten enough from us?

  6. Shared Sacrifice on August 23, 2011 at 9:25 pm

Obama likes shovel ready jobs where people dig holes and then fill them up again.? Surely, there could be a lot of jobs created in identifying, rounding up and? repatriating illegals?? Where is the resounding, “YES WE CAN!”???? Si se Puede!? Oh that’s right- he’s in bed with La Raza- aka The Race.

  7. sammy22 on August 23, 2011 at 9:33 pm

By all means, SOS, let’s throw them out of the country, take everything they have earned away, nullify their diplomas and college degrees, and maybe even the medals they may have earned. Let’s show them!! Let’s really punish them because their parents took them to the US when they were little children!

    • just sayin on August 23, 2011 at 11:20 pm

      Illegal is illegal.

    • essneff on August 23, 2011 at 11:28 pm

wow sammy, all 300,000 have degrees &?medals……. perfect citizens……how do you know that btw??what laws can I break??i’m a good citizen……. which laws can i pick & choose on? for that matter, why even have laws??open the borders & just let everyone in….. hell, we can afford it if we just took a “balanced shared sacrifice?approach”….. this just woukdn’t be?an attempt to buy votes by our Teleprompter in Chief….. nah, of course not???

    • SoundOffSister on August 24, 2011 at 7:18 am

Under our laws, that decision belongs to Congress, not the President.

    • crystal4 on August 24, 2011 at 8:03 am

The Dream Act refers to the babies and children that were brought here and raised as Americans just as you and I were. They had no say in the matter.
This issue really shows the depths of one’s soul

    • phil on August 24, 2011 at 9:57 am

      Yeah, yeah, yeah.

    • Dimsdale on August 24, 2011 at 11:32 am

Well, we should have a say in the matter.
      ?
Let them keep their educations, medals, trophies etc., and take them back to their homelands and enrich those countries.
      ?
A country without effective borders is like a cell without a cell membrane: dead.

  8. rachel on August 24, 2011 at 6:27 am

7+ years ago, my sister-in-law was killed by an illegal immigrant (oops, excuse me, how politically incorrect of me:? an “undocumented worker“).? High school diploma?? College degree?? Combat medals?? Naaaaah…and after the accident he actually ran from the scene and the state police had to track him down with dogs.? @Sammy, don’t assume all illegals are fine, upstanding citizens, just like not all legal citizens of the US are fine & upstanding (but at least they’re legal).? When the president thinks it’s okay to ignore immigration law for votes, we’re in seriously deep doo doo.? But it sure doesn’t surprise me.

    • NH-Jim on August 24, 2011 at 3:40 pm

“When the president thinks it?s okay to ignore immigration law for votes, we?re in seriously deep doo doo.”
      ?

If the president, or anyone for that matter, can ignore this law, then why have any laws at all?? Pick and choose the ones to enforce to fit one’s ideological base?

  9. sammy22 on August 24, 2011 at 11:10 am

rachel, I do not assume anything. I read what is being discussed and nobody is suggesting that all those 300,000 will be “allowed” to stay as several, including SOS, are stating. As usual, a serious and difficult problem is being reduced to a simplistic application of a one-sided solution.

    • Dimsdale on August 24, 2011 at 11:34 am

How about we just assume the facts: they are illegal aliens that have benefited from our lax enforcement of immigration laws and now the gravy train stops.

  10. Moe on August 24, 2011 at 12:41 pm

My favorite poet is Harry Harbord Morant. He was executed during the Boer War in 1902. On his grave is written the epitaph, “And a man’s foes shall be they of his own household” (Matthew 10:36).

  11. sammy22 on August 24, 2011 at 2:26 pm

What gravy train? They earned those diplomas and degrees, and some have died serving this country in the 2 ill-begotten wars that are still being fought!

    • Dimsdale on August 25, 2011 at 8:32 am

Doesn’t Mexico, China etc. have colleges and universities?? I might support military service as a means of getting in, but doesn’t that sound a lot like we are buying mercenaries?

  12. Lynn on August 24, 2011 at 5:26 pm

Compromise: All those illegal immigrants who have served in a war and fought for us, gets to stay in this country, but he/she still have to go through passing the citizen test. If an Illegal immigrant is old enough to have a degree than he/.she goes to any country that will allow him/her in.? I say a high school degree can go to a country of their choice, as well. Anyone accused and is guilty of ANY crime is out. We’ll see how many are left and work from there.

  13. sammy22 on August 24, 2011 at 5:52 pm

Considering that nothing has been implemented, this post gives an interesting perspective on how one can be mis-guided.

    • SoundOffSister on August 24, 2011 at 7:12 pm

Nothing has been implemented, Sammy,?because only?Congress can implement.? The Congress, controlled by Democrats in December, 2010, ?for whatever reason,?choose not to do?so.? The President, under our Constitution, is not permitted to implement.? That was the point of my post.
