How ’bout that $7.69 a week?

Last night Neil Cavuto interviewed New York Congressman Anthony Weiner. Weiner was pushing the $800 billion dollar stimulus package as the answer to our needs. He made special mention of the crummy middle class tax cut, which is not a tax cut at all but rather a transfer payment. That aside, even as a transfer payment Cavuto wondered how stimulative $7.60 a week could possibly be. Weiner’s answer is typical of today’s Democrat … let them eat cake.

"You can always find 5 -10 people that think that any specific thing is the wrong thing to do…."   How about 62% of the country and Wall Street?

"A lot of people in my neighborhood like getting $800 bucks…."    Hmmm, paying thousands of dollars in taxes to get 8 bills back is not a bargain, even in "his neighborhood."

Let them eat cake?  They want us to eat dog food.  Obama brand dog food….

As  usual, Jim, Republican tax cuts are good. Anything else is suspect, if not downright bad. Please send me the $400 you sniff at, I am not too proud. Did I get some tax cut from Pres. Bush in the form of a rebate? Or am I dreaming?

Doesn't buy a tank of gas.  It won't buy a meal in most restaurants.  It would barely buy a 1/2 pound of sandwich meat, maybe store brand if you are lucky.  On an annual basis, it won't cover one month's rent or mortgage for most.  Yes, most people in my neighborhood would appreciate getting their money back, who wouldn't, but it will not stimulate the economy.  Unbelievable.

Don't you love that?  Your property increases in value, your taxes go up.  If the property goes down in value, your taxes stay the same or go up.

Why does government get a windfall and oil companies cannot?

Sadly, this $7.60/week will be paying for a yoke around the neck of my daughter and the rest of her generation and generations to follow.

Maybe if there were less liberal pork in this bill, the tax cut could be bigger.  Bush's stimulus payment, although ineffective, was at least significant.

As usual, Republican deficits are bad, liberal deficits, even ones as huge as this one (and the ones generated by even more "stimulus" packages to com, are "good."  How nice.

Where is all the screaming about deficits now?

As I said, please send me the $400 or $800: if all of you get together and do it it may amount to a tidy sum for me.

As to the screaming at deficits, I do not recall much screaming before Pres. Obama.  And that includes Jim V. who was willing to forgive and forget since the deficits were going to be paid off w/ the increased revenue from taxes coming from the ever expanding economy thanks to the Pres. Bush tax cuts! (just like the Iraq War was going to paid off by the oil revenues from the Iraqi oilfields).

Like you said “in MAY amount to a tidy sum.”?? The real tidy sum is the one you are paying to the government so they can throw you this pittance.? I need the money to offset the proposed gas tax increase by Obama Jr. (Deval Patrick) here in MA.

As for the screaming before age of Obama: sure you heard it: everyday single day out of the mouths of Democrats!? Day in, day out.? And all for a deficit that will come to be seen as a tiny fraction of the one for which Obamais laying the groundwork.? Now?? Nothing.?? Where are the Democrat deficit hawks?

Taxes DO increase when rates are lowered.? See the Laffer curve.? Even Democrats start to pay their taxes when the rates are not onerous.? Bush’s tax cuts did offset the Clinton recession, and helped cushion the shocks from 9/11.?? Government’s problem (both parties) is that they see the increased revenue the way a bull sees a red cape.

Oh yeah.? War paid from oil revenues?? The only ones that said that were Democrats trying to tie the Iraq war to the exploitation of the Iraqi people.?? Sorry, Charlie: that one isn’t going to fly.
