Hey you Coupon Clippers… Look over there it’s the TAX MAN!
As we all know Govenor Malloy is really trying his best to balance the Connecticut state budget. I completely agree that this budget needs to be repaired. We all know how our govenor would like to do it, by raising taxes and even introducing some new ones in the budget. Like going after coupon clippers? Sad, but true.
So what does the middle class do to save money in tough economic times like these. Why, they turn to the Sunday paper and get out those fliers and start clipping out those coupons that allow you save money on the goods and or services that you wish to either purchase or try out. I remember my mom when I was younger going through and clipping coupons. It was one of the things that she did as a parent, a wife was to help in keeping the house hold budget under control.
But wait there are some new rules that Govenor Malloy would like to have in place. We all know that a coupon reduces the cost of the item that one pays, but not in the eyes of Connectiuct’s new state budget. Now if Malloy has his way he wants you to pay the tax on the original cost of the item. So why not just stick it to the middle class again?
In an AP article Benjamin Barnes said this.
“Benjamin Barnes, who is Malloy’s budget chief, says he understands why shoppers are upset and says he doesn’t like it either. But the administration must examine numerous tax exemptions to reduce the budget deficit.
The sales tax would raise $92 million over two years and is one of many Connecticut sales tax exemptions that would end. Listen folks I understand that Connecticut is under tough financial times, but, isn’t this a mile too far.

I believe they have been doing this in MA all along: you pay tax on the precoupon/rebate price.

Wonder how Malloy's doing with "asking" public sector employees to make some sacrifices? Until that day comes (hahahahahahaaaa!), he'll keep on sticking it to the little guy while nothing of great significance is cut from the state budget. I guess we could say he's being creative, but once we're saddled with these tax increases, they'll never go away as long as CT stays true blue–and mark my words, it will.
I can't wait to leave this state for good.
This tax ploy is worse than just coupon clipping, and anyone who shops at Kohls knows it. We went clothes shopping at Kohls recently (I have 3 quickly growing teenage boys) and when the checkout was done we "SAVED" over $600 while paying about $240, and got $50 in Kohls cash. This happens because of the markdowns on ridiculously overpriced "original" retail price of seasonal or last years fashions. It is a marketing gimmick that works very well for all parties.
This is just one example. How about buy-one-get-one-free sales on things other than food?
Are we really going to pay higher taxes due to a marketing gimmick?

We're becoming Communist and have developed our own 5 year plan. I figure maybe the housing market will pick up by then to sell our house. Happy May Day everyone!
