Here Comes National Health Care – Update: Irony Alert

Uh Oh … The President signed the SCHIP legislation this afternoon making even more children (umm that includes kids OVER 18) eligible for “free” government health care … plus legal immigrants (come to America we’ll pay for your care), plus pregnant women, plus their kids, plus … well you get the idea, but as the President just said, this is just the beginning.

Oh nooooooooooooooooo! Here’s what is inside the Stimulus bill the President wants passed.

Under “stimulus,” Medicaid is now on offer not to just poor Americans, but Americans who have lost their jobs. And not just Americans who have lost their jobs, but their spouses and their children. And not Americans who recently lost their jobs, but those who lost jobs, say, early last year. And not just Americans who already lost their jobs, but those who will lose their jobs up to 2011. The federal government is graciously footing the whole bill. The legislation also forbids states to apply income tests in most cases.

Update: Irony Alert! I forgot to mention the President intends to pay for the $35 billion SCHIP program with a $.61 increase in the cigarette tax to $1.00 a pack. And yet one of the programs the Democrats want to fund in the Porkapalooza is $75 million for a “Smoking Cessation Program”. So they intend to fund the increased enrollment in the SCHIP program with smokers, while funding a program to get smokers to stop smoking. Only the government can design a plan like this. Let’s hope the Messiah doesn’t stop anytime soon.

And once the smokers stop or die off, the entitlement remains.   Remains to be funded by some other means.  Alcohol cessation program (oh no!!)?  Trans fat transformation program?  Cars over 1500 pounds elimination program?  Conservative reeducation programs?  Tax talk radio?

How about a bloviation cessation program for Congress?  There's a lot of hot air!
