Harold Ford Jr. – Carpetbagger and flip-flopper

There’s always one thing about politicians from Tennessee that I’ve never quite understood. The bigger the stage they play to, the further to the left the go.

Al Gore – back in the day – used to be pro-life and had that little issue with music with explicit lyrics.  Of course, that was back when he was a member of the House of Representatives. The bigger the stage he played to, the more liberal he became.

Apparently, he’s not the only one who has a problem with consistency. (H/T Kathryn Jean Lopez @ the Corner)

Former House Rep. Harold Ford Jr. – currently chairman of the Democrat Leadership Council – of the Ford family of Memphis, Tenn., has moved to New York and, having seen the big city, has decided he wants to represent it.

Now, the Ford family has had its own issues where politics and ethics, with his uncle tried for bribery as a part of Operation: Tennessee Waltz and was ultimately convicted. He also has more personal political legacies to live down, if he wants to make it in New York City. Before he can do that, he needs to make a few things clear:

“I am pro-choice — have always been since I entered politics almost 15 years ago. My cumulative grade with NARAL during 10 years in Congress was right at 80 percent. Any assertions to the contrary are false.”

Would that include, say, Harold Ford Jr?

‘Ford repeatedly denies having ever been pro-choice. And in an interview with Tucker Carlson during his failed Tennessee Senate run in 2006, he tells Tucker Carlson: “I’m pro-life, Tucker.”

When Tucker asks him how he’d use his vote in the Senate to restrict abortion, Ford adds: “We’re gonna teach people the difference between right and wrong. How come your party hasn’t offered legislation to in the Congress or the Senate to outlaw abortions?””

Now, which is the truth? Does Ford have a problem, being a pro-life Democrat running in a state where half the Republicans are pro-choice?

The short answer is no, it’s not his problem. His problem is that he’s did such a good job bamboozling voters in Tennessee – telling them he was pro-life – that NARAL Pro-Life NY felt the need to put out a response to his interest in becoming the junior senator from the state of New York, hence Ford’s attempt at “coming clean.”

Such a tangled web…

Why Harold Ford Jr makes a fine addition to Harry Ried's Mulattocracy of Obama, Eric Holder, Julian Bond, Colin Powell, Merve Dymally, Johnny Rollinson, and Donna Brazil. …..The Tragic Mulatto is actually a literary term from  late 19th century works, quite different from " magic negro " type characters of Mark Twain or Robinson Caruso….  Dirty Harry must have enjoyed reading this genre as a boy…. .http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tragic_mulatto

I am unable to watch the YouTube video you link to, but what the heck does this post have to do with race? You realize – or maybe you don't – that you loose credibility when posting these types of comments?

Well what planet have you been living on the last week ? You don't understand why Harold Ford Jr would be right for the NY senate seat….I am saying he is just the kind of man  Harry Reid is looking for.

Why Harry Reid and Mr Ford appear to be having a curiously timed public spat… .http://www.commercialappeal.com/news/2010/jan/13/ford-jr-tells-new-york-times-hell-be-more-independ/….With all his problems Reid has time to harass Mr Ford to stay out  , and Ford gives quick  hostile reply . Do they not get along or is this kabuki theatre damage control?  They are both smart to know   people won't see Ford the same way after what Reid said …so lets have a  public fight that makes illusion we are at war. We know  Reid makes  cynacle race calculations when backing a candidate. Reid may  believe  a white blond female with  proven  socialist voting record cannot hold the seat . However, a "light skinned negro without dialect" who makes an illution of being  central will  draw out the minority voters  and  pro choice  repulbicans Reid sees as  too racist to vote for  pure bred " dark negros with dialect". No offense intended. I just see Harry Ried as proven  beyond doubt to  makes these kind of  ugly calculations and I don't like it one bit.
