Even the Constitution can’t stop the Democrats – UPDATE: SOS weighs in on 13th amendment

No that’s not me saying that, that’s California Congressman Peter Stark. Listen to his latest town hall meeting.

This comes to us from Ed at Hot Air. Make sure you read his take. The conversation takes place at a Stark town hall meeting last week and it’s revealing. A woman asks a carefully worded and well researched question on the Obamacare mandate. How she wonders can people be compelled to buy a product or service. It’s unconstitutional. Furthermore, how can the government compel people to pay for others who don’t have to money to pay for the mandate. That she says, violates the 13th amendment abolishing slavery.

But it’s not so much the merrits of her question as California Congressman’s answer. The Constitution be damned … there is nothing we in Congress can’t do

Please … vote these clowns out. They have been there too long and consider themselves rulers over our lives. Freedom is slipping away.

UPDATE: The SOS reports that the slavery argument does not hold water, via the 13th Amendment, although she is quick to add that doesn’t take away from Stark’s stark answer. The 13th amendment she says would apply if Doctors were being forced to provide care for nothing, although that day may be coming too.

Still, I think this pic says it all.

I'm surprised he didn't respond with that old "the Constitution is a living, breathing document" meme. You can bet the SCOTUS will.

"The Constitution be damned … there is nothing we in Congress can’t do"

John Kyl R, Ariz.  told CBS' "Face the Nation" that he supports a call by fellow Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., to introduce a new amendment to repeal the 14th Amendment of the Constitution.

Even the Constitution cannot stop the Republicans!

OK , I'll give you this point. I think we ought to concentrate on keeping illegal immigrants from coming through our borders. I fully support the Arizona law which is the federal law.

So repealing or ratifying a modifying the 14th Amendment by the means delineated in the Constitution is unconstitutional?  ?  Maybe we should bring back Prohibition then.

Ahh, so you are not a tea party constitutionalist-you believe the articles should be repealed and modified=good to know!

    • Dimsdale on August 3, 2010 at 3:34 pm

      You miss my point.

I am unaware of any TEA party member that does not believe that there is a Constitutional mechanism for amending it.

The TEA party is against political elitists end running/ignoring the Constitution and the mechanisms therein, particularly as a means of consolidating power and destroying the concept of limited government.

I thought the Supreme Court had the last word on constitutionality.

It's people like this woman that show me people who still care about the direction this country is going still exist. Props to her.

Maybe Lex Luther had the right idea in the first Superman movie. Why does California produce so many swamp creatures???

Note to Pete Stark (and the people the voted for him): the Constitution was designed to be a guide and a restraint on the federal government.  Not a bludgeon for the Congress to use on the people.

Congress thinks it has control over us and we can do nothing but they have just underestimated the American people. Many of us have ancestors that have passed down their freedom fighting bloodlines – we will not go quietly into this good night — we will stand up and fight for what is ours.

Congress, Hollywood – they are all living a world that is made up – the majority of them are liberals and we all know that liberalism is a mental disorder. They demonstrate this with their mental rants and insane ideas. Which leads us to realize they all need to be contained.

So what are we waiting for – someone needs to step up and start turning things back around.

hooo boy, I can't wait for November to get here…

What was most telling?  Stark sat there nodding his head in agreement as this woman told him that it's people like him ruining this country.  She nailed it.

OMG! I apologize. I just reread my comment to the above. I usually try to stay on target, but I guess I'm not back from vacation yet. I'll be like the LEFT and blame my bad spelling and lack of focus on OBAMA.
