They do not want to stand and face the consequences of the free market, that being receivership, because they know full well what a bankruptcy judge will do to them. Therefore, they're calling in their political chits (Bernanke, Paulson, Geithner, Summers, Dodd, Shumer, Gregg) in order to save themselves from their rightful fate. The Free Market solution is and always should be bankruptcy. We've put men on the moon, I think we can manage an orderly Chapter 11 proceeding(s).

When Mr. Geithner, our master (ackkk, cough, ackk), figures out how to file his taxes, maybe then his opinion of what "we" need to do will matter. Puhleeezzzeeee!!!! I have absolutely zip, zero, nada trust or confidence in they guy and we are going to let him decides who is good enough to be a CEO?????
The only monopoly here is the government. Yes, I agree, the answer is bankruptcy. And another answer is foreclosure. And another is not to increase taxes when things are bad, particularly in a punitive way. Another is to fire/demote/censure/tar and feather incompetent boobs like Dodd and Frank, rather than continue their tenure as the heads of their respective committees, or worse promote them. That is a job for voters and fellow Democrats.

Torture? Approved by Hillary and a host of Democrats, if you can even call what they did torture. To each his own. Warrentless wiretapping? Of people with verifiable contacts out of country with likely terrorist contacts. Apparently, Obama is now okay with that. Pre-emptive war? Yeah, after 14 UN resolutions, not to mention the 500 tons of yellowcake that was shipped to Canada. No doubt you missed the elegance of having a radical Iran scissored between two U.S. friendly Muslim countries. And let us not forget the repeated admonition of Obama to go into Pokeestan. Deregulation in favor of corporate interests? More like overregulation (and political threats) resulting in banks being forced to give subprime loans against all banking theory or worse, being guaranteed by the full faith and credit of the gov't that any losses would be insured. Obama calls it "mortgage relief." I call it throwing valid contracts, the basis of our laws, under the bus. Don't forget all those bonus contracts too. Like 'em or not, they are valid and lawful. SCHIP and socialized medicine? Too easy. "Progressive" taxation? Try and defend that one under the equal protection clause. Go look at Great Britain for a template of the future.
But I digress. Empty, useless perjoratives? Empty and useless only if it weren't happening before our very eyes. Obama hiring and firing (from GM now, but what next?) is part an parcel of nationalization of our industries. Obama telling you what you can earn isn't reassuring either. Obviously, you disagree. To each his own. I honestly hope you are right. Dump the "it takes a village" crap (i.e. gov't knows best) and restore the rights of the individual, and the "socialist" moniker will be dropped. And the country will return to greatness.

Oh, I would love to go into a nice long discussion about the "education" system. I am right in the middle of it. I see the results of a heavily liberalized, "self esteem" promoting curriculum every single day.
There is a huge difference between education and social engineering, which has supplanted the kind of education for which our founding fathers fought.

I see it as defending the free market from the forces that seek to destroy it. Remember the Trusts? Wall street Bank Holding Companies have become the new trusts. This is not an attack on Wall Street as a whole. This is a call to catch a thief. This is a call to render sanction against those who would pervert our free market system. We can't have a system where cheater's are allow to prosper.
You simply refuse to recognize that free markets can be attacked from within. 12 trillion and counting and you still don't see the attack. You do so at your own peril. You are being flanked. Everything is somehow either the governments fault or a Democrat's fault. That's the way they want it.

The free market cannot function when outside forces (government) seek to ameliorate the corrective sides of the free market, i.e. propping up bad mortgages and usurping (nationalizing) businesses under the guise of lending them money.
