Can you keep your health insurance?

Good question. But as the Sound Off Sister clearly outlined in numerous posts, here, here and here, you will not be able to keep your insurance under the Waxman-Markey health care bill.

I put that question to Connecticut’s 5th District Congressman Chris Murphy and he responded with the standard yes you can. But when I outlined the sections of his bill (his web site says he helped broker the compromise) that would make it impossible to keep your current plan… he responded by saying you can keep it, but it will be better.

Well, that’s not keeping your insurance in my book. But you decide. But even more telling was his final remark. Listen all the way to the end where he says our health care is “worth the risk”

We report, you decide. OK commenters … can you keep your health insurance?

The harsh reality is that the gov't will likely offer a "more affordable" plan causing many to change their plans.  It won't REALLY be "more affordable" because the government plan will operate at a loss (as with anything that is run by the gov't) and EVERYONE will have to pay for that.  Since the gov't is not required by anyone to make a profit, self insured employers and insurance companies will not be able to compete (they have to answer to someone).  Sadly, of course, coverage is another issue.  So, to answer your question, NO you will not be able to get the insurance you have today for the same or similar price, it simply will not exist.  In my humble opinion, of course.

The scariest phrase in the English language: "we're from the government and we're here to help you."

Demand that your congresscritter take the pledge to sign onto the same health care they are "servicing" us with, or vote them out of office.

Ooops!! We made a mistake. I'm sorry its too late we already made the change. What kind of nonsense is that? Any dummy can tell you once the government puts their hands on it its the law not a mistake and someone[us] is going to pay for it.

Guess what: you can always buy your own coverage. It just costs a lot of money! Employers get a tax deduction, not me. I like my coverage, I simply don't like the cost and how it has been escalating.
