Breaking – Marines stationed at US Embassy in Mexico injured in shooting

This isn’t about the southern border of the United States, running drugs or running guns. This is a significant issue the government of Mexico has an they must be proactive to deal with it. We do not know the circumstances, but the first reports are worrisome.

The short story from CNN, with my emphasis.

Unknown gunmen inside what was described as a Mexican federal police vehicle fired upon a U.S. Embassy vehicle that carried the U.S. servicemen, said the official, who declined to be named for security reasons.

That would be a very bold attack, especially if the U.S. Embassy vehicle was marked. Let’s see if there is any objection at all from the Obama administration or any other government officials. Imagine if you will … a Mexican Embassy vehicle traveling on the 495 beltway around Washington, DC being shot at by a couple of guys in a Prince George’s County police car.

Imagine the outrage even if the vehicle was stolen by a couple of loons. My bet is Mexico would refer to it as an “act of war.”

The BBC has a bit more information.

Their armoured US embassy four-wheel drive came under fire on a main road near the city of Cuernavaca, police said, quoted by Mexican media.

One was said to have been hit in the leg and the other in the stomach and hand. Both were admitted to hospital.

From Politico.

A Mexican army official said the sport utility vehicle with diplomatic plates was found after a report about a shootout on the highway. The army official was not authorized to be quoted by name. He said a Mexican navy captain was also in the vehicle, but was not injured.

The Toyota SUV was riddled with bullets, most concentrated around the passenger-side window, indicating possible involvement by experienced gunmen.

Attacks on diplomatic personnel are extremely rare in Mexico.

I wonder if there were any Fast and Furious guns used in the assault?

      My thoughts precisely.

Heck in Chicago it’d be just another one of many drive by shootings.? Nothing to see here, move along (and expect an apology for littering from Obama).

Probably more to this then meets the eye. The drug lords are as well armed as the police & way more ruthless. The only way to save Mexico is to legalize all drugs.

As all things come down to being political, what are the chances of that?
      ?
Legalizing drugs would anger a lot of people, people who are making money off of the drug trade by directly trafficking in drugs (and other things), and those who are? against it — the leviathan DEA on down, for example.
As much as it has become a way of life for drug users, it has become a profession for many opposed to any form of legalization. The political push-back would be incredible!
      ?
It would not be easy nor quick. The goal is worthy.
      ?

This is not an isolated incident. A few days ago, a Marine convoy was attacked, with RPGs and automatic weapons being used by the attackers.
    One? of many reports here:

Apart from all the other garbage going on in Mexico, it’s also an Al-Q’aida launching pad to the US.
