Brady Campaign blames Chicago beating on gun violence
Paul Helmke, president of the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence, links the railroad tie beating of high school student Derrion Albert to gun violence. Helmke, you are a stupid idiot. You, and everyone else who watched that video knows Albert was beaten by punches, kicks and brutal swings of railroad ties. I saw no guns.

In the wake of a recent high-profile beating death of a Chicago Public School student, U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan and U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder are expected in Chicago tomorrow to talk about “youth violence.”
Paul Helmke, President of the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence released the following statement:
“The youth violence problem in Chicago is a gun violence problem. Illegal guns are being trafficked into Chicago and then used to kill school-aged children. The Obama Administration has done almost nothing to address this so far. Three years ago, in the wake of the Nickel Mines shooting of five Amish school girls, George W. Bush managed to hold a ‘Conference on School Safety’ without even saying the word ‘gun.’
“During their visit to Chicago, I look forward to Secretary Duncan and Attorney General Holder offering specific solutions about how the Obama Administration will help keep guns away from children, illegal gun traffickers and dangerous people.”
Chicago has the strictest gun laws in the entire country and the Brady Campaign still wants to blame all violence on guns? Sweet goodness. Again, Chicago has banned all firearms, this proves that feel-good legislation that only takes away freedoms and liberties from law abiding citizens does nothing to solve the violence problem.
Sure, guns are being “brought in” from other areas and the Brady Campaign wants no guns to exist – EVER. That’s fine in their stupid little utopia, but it will not work at all in the real world.
When you take a look at the Brady Campaign Web site, why do I see all sorts of legislative efforts to restrict purchases and the liberty of law-abiding citizens and almost nothing about increasing the penalties for using a firearm in the commission of a crime?
The Brady Campaign is not interested in putting criminals in jail, and they certainly know that criminals don’t buy guns legally. Their targets are the good guys!
How about this… commit a crime using a firearm and you go to prison for a minimum of 25 years with no chance of parole. None, zero, nada. Pull the trigger during the crime and you go for 50 years with no chance of parole. Penalties go up from there.
Maybe Helmke should be blaming the inner-city violence on the video games played by teens these days. Have you seen them?

Paul Helmke makes the term "useful idiot" insufficient to the task. Clearly, the guy's job is riding on there being gun violence, so he sees it even where anyone can clearly see it is not the issue.

Well big government's answer plus add in gun control supporters response to the IOC saying "NO" to Chicago hosting the 2016 summer olympics.
As someone who covers entertainment sources, such as video games, I have to disagree with the final paragraph. Video games, like guns, are easy to blame for violence. Jack Thompson made a career out of it, but lost his lawyer license for being a zealot. While I disagree with many of my fellow gamers (although as a casual gamer, some of them would probably disagree with my calling myself a "gamer") that there shouldn't be any restrictions, at least on the sale of violent games, and plenty of them make me sick, a video game won't make any one suddenly go out and commit the heinous actions these kids commited.
There isn't any one source for violence, and no "magic bullet" (pardon the expression) to end the violence trend, including these worthless gun bans. This also discounts all the non-violent games out there, or ones where the violence is tamer than most Looney Tunes shorts. I'm not sure if you were joking or not, Steve. But remember that two of the biggest "anti-gamers" out there are Hillary Clinton and Joe Lieberman. I'm not saying that violent entertainment (including certain movies and songs) can't become a catalyst, but it's hardly the root cause, and I wonder if kids in the 50's or even during WW2 would be as drawn to this content.
