Blackfive: Obama Afghanistan decisions based on politics

I’ll freely admit I’m not up on what’s going on in Afghanistan, but Jim Hanson over at Blackfive put together what I thought was a very good paragraph concerning all of this.

Click here to read the full post which is a relevant precursor to tonight’s campaign speech from President Obama. You’ve got to admit all of his speeches have that campaign feel. My emphasis in bold.

Afghanistan and the larger war against Islamist extremists is one we are quite poorly suited to fight. They have a long war mentality and know this is a clash of civilizations; we are wondering whether there will be parking at the mall. Obama has dim-wittingly reinforced every weakness that al Qaeda and the rest have properly stated about us; we don’t have the will or intestinal fortitude as a nation to fight them as they do to fight us. They don’t have to beat us to win; they simply have to outlast us (language note and check. Did I just use three semi-colons in a row properly?). They have now done so for the second time in Afghanistan.

It really is a clash of cultures and civilizations is it not? What’s difficult here is the Taliban and al-Qaida would find it perfectly acceptable for the west to claim some sort of tactical victory over terrorism as they go home and cruise the Internet, “lick their wounds” and create a Facebook support group.

For a lack of a better term, they are much more strategic with their planning and they have long memories. They will come back. What the heck do you do?

Foreign policy regarding Afghanist: get out completely.? Tell the Taliban?we’ll bomb them back to the stone age if they ever harbor terrorist aspirations again (oh, wait, the Taliban ARE in the stone age).? And tell Pakistan the same thing.
Steve: Fine use of the semi-colon.? It combines independent?clauses?(these can stand alone as separate sentences).? Every clause has a noun and a verb.? However, it is generally used to vary lengths of sentences to make a paragraph more interesting – in other words,?intersperse longer sentences with? short ones.? Yes, I have been an English teacher!

I’m with Gillie, I’m ready to just bomb them. Let the peaceful Pashtuns who make Oriental rugs have sanctuary somewhere and then just bomb to smithereens. Also, Pakistan border.

If we would just drill here and drill now, we could let the Middle East go to h*ll in a hand basket. We would not have any national interest there, except for Israel.
Energy independence should be job 1, with low cost energy we could grow the economy to create jobs. We have the oil, coal and natural gas to sustain us for, al least,?the next century.
If the Middle East decides to threaten us, then we have the bombs to mitigate the threat.

Yes, Lynn, make glass, not war.? Melt the whole area down, and increase our glass-cutter factories so we can just take their oil.? Who said war has to be fair?? Cheat, baby, cheat! Win, baby, win!

Pakistan cheated when they killed Ahmad Shah Massoud, ‘the Lion in Winter” on September 11, 2001. Remember that date. It was a well organized effort. OBL was protected for 10 years in Pakistan when he tried to destroy US will, by killing (even he was surprised) 3,000 US civilians. Pakistan operatives? killed the only man who could unite and civilize Afghanistan? the same day. ? (I read a small paragraph report of the killing on Sept 10, 2001, but I never cut it out. I remembered the connection, but no one ever reported it in the main stream media, obviously they never considered it important in light of the total chaos, but it was) The Taliban will wait forever and subjugate, maim and kill every one who does not believe as they do. What is different between bombing them out or dropping bombs on Nagasaki and Hiroshima to end WWII when Japan would not surrender?
Personally, I never heard of oil in Afghanistan or Pakistan either. But maybe you know something I don’t.? The war against the Taliban has nothing to do with oil.? You are confused between Gillie and I, and Joe.

No one really believes Oblamo is considering the the best interest of the American people in his decision making. ?He is more about pandering to the tax takers and those interested in getting free stuff, as those are the ones he needs for reelection. When the tax takers outnumber the tax payers he will have reelection and socialism.
