Biden to Bush: You deserve a lot of credit Mr President

OK, hell has frozen over. It’s snowing in Miami. Global warming has ended. I play the violin like Elana James … ummm … quick, jump in, everyone. Your wildest dreams can now come true. Vice President Joe Biden to former President George W. Bush … “Thank you Mr President”.

From “The Colbert Report” from two nights ago and the video comes from yesterday’s Fox and Friends. Heard it on the way in to work yesterday and now we have the video, saved for posterity. My heart if thumping so hard I can’t stand it. From the man who said Iraq  would be Barry O’s greatest acheivement comes, thank you, Mr President. Yikes.

Any indication as to why this consummate politician would say this. Bush polling not so bad now? Desperate times call for desperate measures? What up?

UPDATE: I am sorry. The original title read Obama to Bush when I clearly meant Biden. I guess I got so excited I thought everyone was in on this.

    Missed the point here.

Colbert's show is purely about snark, classy, refined snark.  Biden was reminding the country that this WAS Bush's war and the more that clip is played, the more people will remember it was his from beginning to end.

I'm pretty good at catching snark or insincerity, but I don't hear or see any snark in that clip.  Biden is talking about Bush honoring the troops and caring about what happened.  Maybe in context there's more going on, but I don't see it here.

The host leaning over into the camera at the end in shock is hilarious.

    1. Look at biden's face

    2. Sorry odonna, but he could not even 'honor" the troops by finding it in his budget for body armor – many parents took it upon themselves to buy the armor.

In January 2006, the New York Times cited a secret Pentagon study that found that as many as 80 percent of the Marines killed in Iraq from wounds to the upper body could have survived if they had body armor that reached a soldier's shoulders, sides and torso.

I watched the full segment on Colbert's site.  There was no sarcasm but some humor.  I was left with more respect for Vice President Biden.  (Wow, did I just say that)  I don't agree with his political views but I know he has been through a lot in his life and I am proud of his son serving and protecting us.

As for Chris-OS, it's always easy to play armchair general.  The fact about war is that you fight with what you have, not with what you wish you had.  Many improvements were made in our military because of these two wars that most likely would not have come about until much later.  It's called real-world design.  Maybe, if the Clinton administration hadn't reduced the defense budget 16.7% ($377B) from Reagans' $453B, [which GWB increased to $496B (not including the 2 wars)] our troops may have had the equipment they needed.

this is the times article that os references, along with the subsequent correction, should anyone be interested:  http://www.nytimes.com/2006/01/07/politics/07armo….
isn't it encouraging that the establitariat feels comfortable enough with their military progress (or is it bush's?) that they are making the time to appear on entertainment programs to comment or mock?  oh so classy and refined. . .

My first thought was, "At last". Thank you Mr. Vice President for a classy act. My second thought was, "How sad that we have become so polarized that a compliment from an opposing party is so rare." Congratulations to Colbert for asking what no one in the mainstream media (with the exception of Gretchen from Fox News) would ask.

Biden smeared Bush soooooo often during Bush's tenure, that no cool-aid drinking liberal could see anything but humor in these 16 seconds of disingenuous praise!  Biden even fretted for the safety of little Bo Biden, the JAG glory boy who was, uhhh, prosecuting our soldiers back in the green zone?  Biden is a real man of genius:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=toorZ2X8PyE

Biden thanks Bush
