Banned! Update RVO reader

Update: By the way a Hat Tip goes to RVO reader Lucinda on this one. Thanks Lucinda.

It was perhaps our most viewed post this month but unfortunately it will not be viewed during the Super Bowl.

NBC has rejected CatholicVote.com’s attempt to buy advertising time during the Super Bowl to show its pro-life ad. Though the network says it does not show ads involving “political advocacy or issues,” the ad’s creators have questioned whether a double standard is at work.

But wait …the folks who created the pro-life ad say there’s a double standard. NBC says it banned a similarly political ad from PETA . But the CatholicVote.com folks claim NBC was willing to air the PETA ad.

An e-mail reportedly from Victoria Morgan, Vice President of Advertising Standards for Universal, was reproduced on the PETA web site explaining the ad’s rejection: “The PETA spot submitted to Advertising Standards depicts a level of sexuality exceeding our standards.”

The e-mail to PETA detailed “edits that need to be made” in order for the ad to run.

“NBC claims it doesn’t allow advocacy ads, but that’s not true. They were willing to air an ad by PETA if they would simply tone down the sexual suggestiveness. Our ad is far less provocative, and hardly controversial by comparison,” said Burch.

I don’t know if there’s a double standard or not. It doesn’t matter. It’s banned. Period. So … just for you one more time.

I think it is a great ad. But I also think NBC should have the liberty to accept and reject advertisements.

Then again aren't all ads 'advocacy' ads?

Well maybe they can use the money to help the poor or something instead of this futile attempt to end abortion.

But Erik in this ad they are not calling for laws against abortion they just want people to know that it  may be possible for them to have a baby when they think it would be easier to not have a baby.

    God bless
