Announcement From Jim Vicevich (Update)

I have some good news, and some not so good news for you all. First, the not so good news.

I am so sorry to inform you, my loyal listeners and friends, that, as of this morning at 8:30, I am no longer employed by WTIC 1080. Over the course of four months, we were unable to reach an agreement on a new contract.

I want you to know I would never think of leaving you without saying good bye, especially in turbulent times like this, but the station made the decision to keep me off the air for the final day of my contract. So this will have to be my way of saying thank you. You are the most loyal and as the SOS says, brightest, well informed audience that any talker could have.

Please be assured that I wish this were not so, but this is still America, where the individual, and business for that matter, can decide their worth for work. On that point we could not agree.

Now the good news. Radioviceonline.com will continue without interruption, with the chat room and live video so we can continue our conversations that started here a year and a half ago. I will be live chatting tonight at 7PM and hope you will join me then as we continue to talk politics, health care, taxes, deficit … yada, yada. Ha!

PLUS, I will be on Fox 61 news tomorrow at 6AM, and there will be a web chat there at 7 AM as well. I hope you will be able to join me then. It will be great to have some friendly chatters. Details to follow.

God bless all of you. I am so blessed to have you all over the years, especially in January when it was your prayers that not only saw me through a health crisis, but has led to my remission. True.  It is my prayer now that we can continue the conversation and the relationship.

Your friend,

Jim

Update (Steve): Jim will be on the air during the 6 a.m. ET hour on Fox61 in Hartford. At 7 a.m. ET, he’ll be doing a special live chat on the Fox61 CTNow.com Web site. The link will take you directly to the live chat.

Update 2 (Steve): I’ve now turned off the comments for this post. There were enough posts that were pretty bad (using profanity, suggesting others go sit on an IED…) that I was not going to spend the time cleaning them up. You’ll note I left up the comments suggesting Jim’s show sucked and such … I’m not putting up with those same idiots who have zero class at all and take it to the next level. It would soon get to the point where law enforcement would get contacted.

So, let’s just use the trolls as examples of lefty hate speech.

Go ahead and complain to yourself (or send an e-mail) about being censored … when you do, you prove you are clueless.

I'm sorry to hear this very sad news, Jim.  You will be SORELY missed on WTIC.  You were the only reason I listened to WTIC.  They lost me years ago and now there's NO reason to go back!  I wish you the best in your future endeavors!

No Jim!!  I worry, my mother worries..

You have got to be kidding me!  Is this some elaborate April fool's joke?  If it is true, will  you please see if you can get a gig on Fox?  Even though I can't get cable, I will find a way to watch!

What the hell is wrong with WTIC?

    • Dimsdale on March 31, 2010 at 7:16 am

      I forgot to say: "*&#^@!*^*#@*%^%*&@" and "(&@^%%&@(*!!(*@^".

You better land on your feet, Jim.  I need my daily dose of Dr. V!!!

    • DrHunterSThompson on March 31, 2010 at 7:51 am

Well, enough was enough.  that became very obvious.

y'all gotta understand that once you are blind to the  realities of the middle, you are cooked. this guy never even tried to understand the left.  and worse, he never realized that the middle will always win.

radical fringe will never survive in the long haul.

    • t-mags on March 31, 2010 at 5:24 pm

Try telling that to Michael Moore or Rush Limbaugh

    • Anne-EH on March 31, 2010 at 8:29 am

Well the ironic thing is, that CBS, which owns CBS Radio, which owns WTIC AM, can PAY TONS of $$$$ for Katie Courac to do the news during the week, yet CANNOT work out a good agreement with Jim!

    • ProudlyProgressive on March 31, 2010 at 11:27 am

How much do you really expect CBS to pay for hate speech?

  4. Odonna on March 31, 2010 at 7:02 am

I'm stunned.  Yours was the first, and so far the only, radio talk show I ever called into.  I came to like yours even more than Rush because you kept us up on the local shenannigans too, and helped me realize that I also lean "republitarian".

I am glad the Blog will still be here.  It's where I come to first for the news of the day.  And I hope this means there will be bigger and wider audiences in your future.

    • ProudlyProgressive on March 31, 2010 at 11:25 am

If you tuned into his show for news or analysis, you can get the exact same thing by reading the comics or by reading Pravda- the old Russian newspaper!

    • Dimsdale on March 31, 2010 at 1:38 pm

Pravda was the paper of the communist elite, kinda like the New York Times.   Both produced socialist/communist propaganda, thus, they are the papers of the left.  There is no way you would get any of the enlightenment that Jim provides.  Just lefty agitprop.

    • Linda Mae on March 31, 2010 at 6:20 pm

      Dear PP

Obviously you never took the time to go to the links on this site otherwise you'd never make this statement.  Brainwashing is so easy with those who are unable to use their critical thinking skills.  I pity you in your ignorance since you really don't get it.  You use your party as a shield against information.  Hate speech?  What are you spewing but hate speech?  Ignorant means not knowing the facts – curable by seeking knowledge.  I bet you believe that a coffin was left on someone's lawn – you won't believe the You Tube video showing what happened.  I suggest you spend a week watching Fox NEWS – and then go to the network opinnion sites if you want.  Also, spend a week visiting Newsbusters every night – and take the time to go to the original sources available there.  Or – you can continue to drink the Kool Aid and be comfortable in your own ignorance.  A mind IS a terrible thing to waste.  Dare you!!! Bet you won't cause then you'd have to admit that you are not always 100% right.  I hope you have no elderly parents.  They will face the same type of health care as the UK and Canada – zilch.  Of course, you probably haven't a clue what  I mean.  Pray for your parents and aunts and uncles.

    • ProudlyProgressive on April 1, 2010 at 4:15 am

      Hey Linda Mae-

I DARE YOU to spend a week watching and reading (if you know how) CREDIBLE and COMPETENT news sources such as the New York Times or Washington Post or ABC News or CNN or NBC News or CBS News.

I would think that as a woman you would be offended by Fox Noise's constant hiring of dumb blondes (Megan Kelly, Gretchen Carlson, Jane Skinner, Martha McCallum, Ainsley Earhardt, Courtney Friel, etc etc etc)….  Its all style over substance on that network!

For you and your ilk, ignorance must really be bliss!

  5. Lynn on March 31, 2010 at 7:09 am

Jim, I am totally distraught. I listened to you on my way home from the gym every day. You kept "my engine" running until I got home to listen to you on your Podcast! I understand the free market, but your show was so popular, I can't believe WTIC does not understand. Don Imus came back stronger and better, I pray you do too.  See you at the Tea Party in Hartford! Lynn

  6. hwhat on March 31, 2010 at 7:49 am

I am very sorry to hear this news. I have found your program to be very interesting and informative and for once in my life I have become politically active. Will continue to follow you at radioviceonline.

I am a firm believer that when one door closes, another one opens.

    Thanks for all you do.

    • DrHunterSThompson on March 31, 2010 at 7:55 am

      thanks for all you do??

      what does he do?

you gotta be kidding us, really ……..

Or better yet, do an online show Jim, you will get PLENTY of fans there! :)=^..^=

  9. DrHunterSThompson on March 31, 2010 at 8:43 am

Winston Churchhill once said …… something like, and i don't quote ……. "one who is not liberal in youth has no guts and one more conservative in old age has no brains."

    he was very correct.

    • Steve McGough on March 31, 2010 at 9:00 am

Are you trying to stir something up here? Look, WTIC made Jim an offer to continue his show on the station. Over a period of time, they could not come to an agreement on a contract. It's as simple as that.

If you had any clue about the ratings, you'd know the show was doing very well, just ask the advertisers.

    • Dimsdale on March 31, 2010 at 1:04 pm

You answered your own question: he/she/? is clueless.  He/she/it is the kind of gutless carrion eater that didn't have the testicular fortitude to challenge Jim on the air.

    • Linda Mae on March 31, 2010 at 6:28 pm

Does this mean that we have to do stupid things while young and not be able to use our intelligence and common sense?  I don't believe it.  A liberal is free with your money.  Or, kids are liberal since they haven't earned very much.  They believe in a free lunch.  Conservatives have worked hard to make a comfortable life for themselves – they aren't afraid to share – but have the idea that they should be able to enjoy -as well as their kids – the fruit of all of their labors.  In August, 2009, the Black Conservative Caucus held a conference.  One woman said it best:  We need to give people in need a hand up NOT and hand out. Best lesson for all of us to learn.  Since all of the socialist countries in Europe are ready to collapse economically – we should not follow them.  But – some fools want to.  They haven't taken the time to study history.

One of the most interesting things I've found out recently, is that a substantial number of the [removed] are unemployed and receiving some form of government aide (unemployment benefits, food stamps, etc ).

Also, I would like to know what statistics you have that support your statement that "conservatives have worked hard to make a comfortable  life for themselves"— what makes you think that conservatives are comfortable whereas other groups are not??

By the way, it was the USA that was about to collapse financially in September 2008- under the stewardship of "dubya"  ("great job brownie!")

  10. kateinmaine on March 31, 2010 at 8:58 am

whaaaaa????   didn't see this coming. . .and held for RAY for 45 mins. to talk about waiting in line for obama tickets in portland.  CRAP!!!  well, jim–i've got a spare ticket–do you have some time?

and by the way, is there some sort of irate petition drive or demonstration to get you back on the air?  it would be worth the drive. . .

oh, and drhuntersthompson is dead–he should be able to get a direct quote and b-slap from churchill. . .

Oh man, on it's face this news is depressing…

    I love listening to Jim.

Here's to hoping this is actually good news, and that Jim will end up in better position to spread his message to folks who need to hear it.  Here's also to hoping that there will still be a sound off music festival this year.

As a side note; Hunter S Thompson once said,  "I hate to advocate drugs, alcohol, violence, or insanity to anyone, but they've always worked for me."  Clearly Hunter's ghost is drunk, high, and insane, so maybe that's why he trolls message boards.

  13. SundayMorningCoffee on March 31, 2010 at 11:22 am

Sorry to hear that Jim. Easter is a great time to remake yourself.

    See ya at Starbucks.

  14. Sooze on March 31, 2010 at 11:29 am

What kind of doctor are you, Hunter S. Thompson, must be an A-hole doc.  And you must not have any patients, because you made comments at 12:51, 12:55 and again at 1:43.  You're missing Jim aren't you.  And Proudly Progressive you're an A-hole too! just like Dr. A-hole!  Jim we love you and I know we will be hearing from you soon…… stay healthy and keep up the good work.  P.S. CBS couldn't agree on a contract with you because they are for ObamaRama – LOSER.  And I believe CBS will be hurting even more now that you're not there.  I will no longer listen to 1080.

    • Dimsdale on March 31, 2010 at 1:18 pm

They are just Err America listeners looking for someplace to go.

  16. winnifredthewoebegon on March 31, 2010 at 11:49 am

They've lost me, Jim.  I've been listening to the station since I was knee high to a grasshopper and I will NEVER, EVER, EVER tune in again.  If I need talk radio in the a.m. when I'm out & about for school, I'll be listening to AM 560.

Will continue to follow you faithfully & wish you all the success in the world.  It's going to be yours…I just KNOW it!  FOX in the morning it is & chat @ night!  Yours, Winni!

  17. Bill from Wolcott on March 31, 2010 at 11:50 am

I knew something was up when in 3 hours, Ray didn't mention Jim's name once.  It is very low class and disrespectful to loyal listeners for WTIC to handle the situation this way.  I never understood the accecpted procedure as to when a personality leaves the airwaves the station acts as if that person was never on the air.

Well, Jim I was there in the begining I'll be there at the end when that  happens many years from now.

As for those who say nasty things –  to show the difference between "us" and "them" when Colin Mcnroe

    • pauldow on March 31, 2010 at 1:07 pm

I'm 99% certain that Ray was told not to mention the departure.  It's good that  it isn't a medical issue.

Of course, I don't know the details of the negotiations, but after expanding the show to 3 hours, I would have thought the show would be a candidate for syndication.  It certainly is a surprise reading the news here.

My guess is that Rahm Emanuel made the decision to hold down the offer. The truth was getting out, and it needed to be stopped.

I know you'll have lots of support in whatever you decide, Jim

    • Anne-EH on March 31, 2010 at 5:07 pm

Most likely Ray was WARNED not to mentioned about the departure, if he wanted to keep his J-O-B. Sad but would not be surprised if true.

  18. Bill from Wolcott on March 31, 2010 at 11:51 am

    Sorry,  let me finish.

When Colin left the airwaves those who didn't agree with him still wished him the best.

  19. TD1945 on March 31, 2010 at 12:19 pm

    Jim,

Cannot believe that WTIC could not work out an agreement with you……they will be losing lots and lots of listeners.  Apparently the management does not know a good thing when it stares them in the face == what are they thinking?????  My husband Ron is irate, and I really can't print what he says about the station here……he did leave some strong voice mails, however, and is hopeful they will be passed on to those in charge.

  20. donh on March 31, 2010 at 12:51 pm

I fail to see why CBS doesn't just sell the station while it has content of value . Give it to someone who cares about maintaining a quality product . Nobody is going to want to buy an empty shell .

  21. TomTGRWolcott on March 31, 2010 at 12:57 pm

    You mean Ive been….GASP….canceled for FRIDAYS….OH NO….

Okay just kidding …had to make a joke here everyone is being so serious.

The loss is greater than WTIC can imagine…for its been a person of REASON, who has blamed Republicans and Democrats alike for their mistakes….the voice of reason has been silenced…..now what are going to get another BECK or LIMBAUGH….although good, I think they lack the insight of the JV    time will tell….

    Tuning in for 7pm though….

  22. IWorryMyMomWorries on March 31, 2010 at 1:08 pm

A radio board is speculating that – eventually – Clear Channel will take back its rights to Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity from WTIC (i.e. neuter WTIC even more than what has happened today) and start a "Rush Radio" station just as they have done in markets like Boston, Raleigh and Greensboro. I bet you would be the PERFECT morning show for a Hartford-style "Rush Radio" station. You won't be off the radio for long, James Aloysius! Keep the faith!

  23. glory0265 on March 31, 2010 at 1:56 pm

I am so sorry to hear that you will no longer be on wtic. You are the only reason I listened to that station. I pray that your health stays good and that you land a better position somewhere else.   God Bless!!

  24. Anne-EH on March 31, 2010 at 1:57 pm

Well like the prophets centuries ago, who had often been put to death for doing the right thing, WTICAM today SILENCE a voice of COMMON SENSE TODAY.

  25. Gusaroo on March 31, 2010 at 2:18 pm

Jim, I am praying this is an April Fools joke…if not I will not be laughing tomorrow.  I have listened to you and sung your praises since day one of your show.  I got hooked on talk radio in the days after 9/11 and your show was a daily staple!

  26. mikeCOLE on March 31, 2010 at 2:21 pm

First the Whalers now this …WTF tic?????????????

  27. Boogles on March 31, 2010 at 2:40 pm

Like many of you i was sad to hear that TIC lost another local show. As much as i enjoyed Jim over the years, the people at TIC had a gold mine with Jim in the morning and Colin in the afternoon. Both inteligent well spoken individuals who actualy beeive in what they said. When Colin left only half of the equation was left. Jim carried on with his half of the deal and did it as always with excelence. Sorry to see you go. Other than news traffic and weather on the 8s and Rays whitisisms there isnt much left for me in the local talkshow realm on htat station. Now the all mighty Rush, who does tend to get as redundant as hell, is the only political voice on the station. Not balaced at all. I myself am a political junkie I like to hear from everyone. Good Luck Jim hope to hear you soon.

  28. Erwin on March 31, 2010 at 2:52 pm

    Jim,

Better things will come your way.  I think WTIC radios  glory days are behind them.   A sad day for Connecticut!  I don't think they have a clue about how folks feel about you.  You do a great job!  Will now be listening on the BLOG.

Unbelievable.  WTIC has lost another listener today.  I'm so furious I sent them my resignation as a listener.  Good Luck Jim, something much better will come along.

Very unfortunate decision by WTIC.  There is no reason to listen to this radio station anymore.  It's too bad they carry the Sox and UConn games.

  33. ArtemusJ on March 31, 2010 at 3:58 pm

How about moving to somewhere on Talk of Connecticut?

  34. granny on March 31, 2010 at 4:36 pm

    Dear Jim,

What a sad day for CT.   What is wrong with TIC??   They do not know what they have lost.   My husband  and I have listened to you since day one.  You were our source of reason in these dark times.  You kept us going with the truth and gave us hope.

We have listened to TIC for more than 50 years and as of today, we will NEVER listen to that station again!!

We look forward to seeing you on Fox 61 news.   Let's hope there is another station that will  put Sound Off  Ct back on the air!!   Hope to see you in Hartford April 15th.

    Love you Jim,  God bless!!

  35. ameliawood on March 31, 2010 at 4:57 pm

    O dear Jim,

What am I to do without listening to you from 9-12 every weekday morning? It is your voice I want to tune in first thing I get into the car! And now you are gone?? I thought you were taken ill again when I didn't hear your voice this morning and didn't hear Ray mentioning you once.

I know that you will go into something bigger and better than WTIC. Their loss, your gain..keep going Jim…we are all behind you 101%.

P/s: Loved your show and now this..unbelievable.

  36. t-mags on March 31, 2010 at 5:35 pm

Jim, listening to your show made my mornings, it keep me sane during these insane times and I am sure I can speak on behalf of all your loyal listeners.  Always hearing leftist redirect from my professors and friends who think this new form of progressivism is excellent; your show keeps those people in check.

Come back strong Jim, make WTIC know they made a horrible mistake.

  37. Lucinda on March 31, 2010 at 5:35 pm

    Jim,

I've been listening to you since day one, and often worked my schedule around your show so I wouldn't miss a minute, because it was fun listening to you. Whether I was in the car or in the office, hearing you on the radio was like being in the company of a good friend. I don't think WTIC is aware of what they have lost. When God closes one door, He opens another. Looking forward to whatever new ventures may come your way.

    Still your loyal listener,

    Lucinda

This country needs people like him.  You are a true PATRIOT!,  gonna miss ya brother

    Jim-

I appreciate your knowledge and work. Thanks to the "Sound off Sister" and the rest of those who provided me with informed content to battle this health care debacle and the present administration whose radical ideology is the antithesis of what our founding fathers intended.

Wish you the best as you continue to make an impact on our society. I will see you April 15th in Hartford at the Tea Party!

    God Bless and Semper Fi!

My husband and I are heart sick.  Yours was the most educational show on radio.  We loved that you provided support with links to videos so that we could watch, or read and make up our own minds.  We are absolutely distraught.  Yours was the only show we followed on WTIC – so Beck and Carr – here we are.

Excellent news.Thank God your greed has removed you from the radio airwaves. I'd rather it was a decision by CBS to rid us of another opportunist jumping on the Freedom (from the thought process) Express bandwagon, trying to make a buck fear-mongering. I was wondering why Ray Dunaway was trying to be "edgy" this morning. I figured management had told him to get w/ the Teabagger program or else. Btw- the reason you guys "hate" (fear) a resumption of the Equal Time law is because you'd all be out of a job. Good luck!

What took place at WTIC AM/CBS Radio was WRONG. IMHO, America NEEDS MORE VOICES of COMMON SENSE and LIBERTY in these dangerous times for America. Jim is a GREAT AMERICAN PATRIOT! The left will be in for a BIG SURPRISE come November!

I thought something was wrong this morning when I signed onto the WTIC web page to listen to the show and watch the chatroom but I coulndn't find the "Sound Off" option.

I'm so disappointed!!  Jim, you were the only reason I listened to WTIC.  I even had my teens listening to you when we were in the car.  I would tell them to keep quiet because I needed to hear my Jimmy V.  We all learned so much and have taken such an interest in politics with your help.  BTW, we'll be looking for you at the Tea Party!!

Well, I'm off to write a strongly worded letter to WTIC to let them know how upset I am that they couldn't make it happen!

This is a sad day for radio in Hartford or should I say Farmington as WTIC has lost a great talk show host.

Jim you have been great fun to listen to and you taught many people what it means to be a free and informed thinker.

I will continue to try to  get to the blog daily and now I may have to get that 3G phone to keep up with you while I am on the road.

It will not be the same and I worriiieee about all Americans tonight.

Jim, Can't believe you are off air. I am just back being able to listen to you and you are gone.  WE NEED YOU more than ever.  Any hope?  PLEASE    This I know is a blast from your past and all our military support  I have been thinking of you and praying for you Glad you are doing better.  Joanne from R.H

Jim,  I was convinced it was an April Fool's joke when my husband told me there was a short article in The Courant saying that you had left WTIC!! Sadly, it is not a joke. I have never called the show but listen DAILY & have depended on you to keep me informed. Not only have we lost your voice, we have also lost another voice of reason, your sister, Barbara. While I certainly wish you well, I am not willing to give up the fight to keep you. What can your loyal listeners do?? I fear simply calling or writing to the station will not be enough. The blog is also not enough since I don't have time to participate. I want to HEAR you on air daily!

P S  Much rather talk than be on the computer since this is not my best asset.
