“Q) How do you get a Democrat to pay their taxes? A) Nominate him to a cabinet position.”

Tom Daschle … Tom Daschle? Who’s next… the Treasury Secretary?Oh wait. Sorry, never mind. More on the title of this post in a minute but first …Here’s the latest:

Secretary of Health and Human Services nominee Tom Daschle has an even bigger tax problem than Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner:  Daschle failed to pay more than $140,000 in taxes and interest for the free use of a car and chauffer provided to him over three years by a prominent businessman and Democratic fund-raiser.

Click here for the media roundup and details … but first, for those of you keeping score:

  1. Ways and Means Chairman Charlie Rangle (D-NY)
  2. Secretary of the Treasury Tim Geithner
  3. Princess Caroline
  4. and in the cleanup spot and handling your new health care system … Tom Daschle.

By the way … the title of the post comes from RVO reader Tony, who writes:

Enjoy your show, and just wanted to leave you with a couple of quick ones…

Q) How do you get a Democrat to pay their taxes?

A) Nominate him to a cabinet position.

Ya know if it weren’t so damn pathetic Tony (and true) … I would be laughing right now instead of crying. No wait … I am laughing. Bwahahahahahah. Hey Secretary Daschle … just tell em you made a mistake. Bwahahahaha. No wait Geitner used that one. OK … here’s one for you:

But Tony’s not the only wit who sees the humor in all of this. Instapundit reader Michael Stein writes: “You think instead of the stimulus bill, Congress might instead pass an initiative requiring Democrats to just pay the taxes they owe?”  Ya think?

Oh for a complete “Hope N Change” scorecard, may I, with the utmost humility, point out my post from 5 days ago.

Radio Vice has the eyes and ears of the masses.  Our wisdom is strong when united.  Nice job Tony.

In preperation for filing my 2008 Tax return, as I gather all my W-2's, 1099, div, capital gains, misc, etc., I just started to wonder that if I "mistakenly" or "thoughtlessly" or "erred" in tallying these very complicated small pieces of paper, perhaps years from now my talents were recoginzed by the pure transparency of ObamaNation, an appointment may come my way and a simple non-ceremonial writing of a check will make all my filing ills go aware I can…..blah, yada, blah, yada.

Seriously now, all the IRS has to do is audit congress, lobbyists and retirees of congress….untold billions of revenue would surface.

Ah, you beat me to the punch, Steve…

But seriously, when did the "party of the little guy," the party that has never met a tax hike they didn't like, decide their twin slogans were "do as we say, not as we do" and Leona Helmsley's famous bon mot "Only the little people pay taxes"?

Hey..that's a no brainer..just let them use tax payer money to pay for them….that's how you do..it..

Wyndeward: maybe "the party of the little guy" turned into "partying on the backs of the little guy."

The Democrat party is rapidly becoming the Oversight Party, as in "gee, I forgot about that (insert illegal and/or unethical action here).  It must have been an oversight (or the accountant missed it, my dog ate it, I left my receipts in my pocket and washed them, or I am an illegal alien/congressman/senator and the rules do not apply to me.)
