You tell me where the racism is

Wolf Blitzer interviews GOP Chairman Michael Steele on the Jimmy Carter comment “the protestors are racists” line. Steele is justifiably outraged. And when Wolf pushes back … he levels the charge that has needed to be leveled for decades.

As an added bonus, Steele takes on Dowd and Congressman Johnson seeing racism in Joe Wilson’s remark

Now THIS is why I like and respect Mr Steele. In the past republicans have been so eager to advance blacks to the front of the party, we get people like JC Watts who would NEVER respond to the playing of the race card. Real nice men but never any use in that one area where republicans are smeared the worst with punches below the belt, the ad hominem attacks of RACISM. Mr Steele not only has the courage to smack down the race card , he has demonstrated fine leadership on Healthcare reforms, and spending debates. Mr. Steele is everything the first black President should have been.

great post, don.  I used to think Michael Steele was kind of wimpy too, but he's really shone recently in standing up to nonsense.  Good for him for exercising his "buns of Steele!"

I have noticed when liberals debate, they have a tendency to put words in our mouth, like … if we don't like the current healthcare plan – it's translated to – we don't want healthcare for the poor and sick.  But to take a calling a lie a lie and translate it to "they are coming after you in white hoods" just sickens me.  And yet, it is embraced not only by the liberals but by the media too, no matter how wrong.  Another sickening reality.  I thank Michael Steele for putting things back into perspective.   And on CNN too.  Hmmmm …. do we dare expect more of that balance in the future?

It is good to see someone confront the race baiting poverty pimps, and do it intelligently and logically.

The charge of racism or bigotry (or homophobia or intolerance) against Republicans is a classic red herring used by Democrats to divert from their own bad behavior and lying.  It shouts: "I have nothing else to contribute to the debate, so I will put you on the defensive so I won't look as pathetic as I really am" by Democrats.

Jim, it is refreshing to see the GOP head take on the liberals in their own backyard,CNN. Because the Dems/libs, and in this case, Wolf Blitzer, tries to challenge Micheal Steel had given a detailed position of why those who claim they are for those who are minorities or the poor have not kept their promises and have misled these same minorities and poor for over the last 40 years. Mr. Steele said what needed to be said. Also the posting of your commetary Jim over at Free Republic is among the most posted with response posts. Goes to show that people are fed up with being called racists. Here is the URL :

So if the Democrats/Independents etc. claim not be racists and the Republicans/Conservatives etc. claim not to be racists I wonder why the issue of racism comes up. Obviously there is no racism in the US! Why all the fuss??

sammy22 – you made my argument, putting words in our mouth.  I did not read one argument that said racism doesn't exist in this blog.  No doubt it does exist, against every ethnic group, race and gender.  But opposition to the liberal policies of President Obama is not automatically based in racism because he is black.  What do you suppose the liberal argument would have been if it was a white president and someone in the house yelled "you lie"?  It most certainly would not have been racism.  It's called opposition sammy22, not racism.

@  Darlene. You did fine until the 4th sentence. At that point you inserted a "but" which nullified what came before it. I did not put words in your mouth. You then decided to get into a hypothetical discussion : I don't know the answers to your hypothetical arguments.

I am white. I don't have a single white friend or acquaintance who I would even suspect of being against Obama because he is black. My guess is that Jimmy Carter does know such folks among his acquaintances, and that is why he thinks most of Obama's opponents think that way.
