Would the Last Honest Reporter Please Turn On the Lights?

This from Brendan via Twitter: An incredible indicting article from Orson Scott Card … a Democrat, who wonders why the press has totally run from the Democrats involvement in the financial crisis. Frankly, so did I, for a second. Read it all.

Isn’t there a story here?  Doesn’t journalism require that you who produce our daily paper tell the truth about who brought us to a position where the only way to keep confidence in our economy was a $700 billion bailout?  Aren’t you supposed to follow the money and see which politicians were benefiting personally from the deregulation of mortgage lending?

I have no doubt that if these facts had pointed to the Republican Party or to John McCain as the guilty parties, you would be treating it as a vast scandal.  “Housing-gate,” no doubt.  Or “Fannie-gate.”

Instead, it was Senator Christopher Dodd and Congressman Barney Frank, both Democrats, who denied that there were any problems, who refused Bush administration requests to set up a regulatory agency to watch over Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, and who were still pushing for these agencies to go even further in promoting sub-prime mortgage loans almost up to the minute they failed.

Just as reminder:

If there ever, EVER was a must read column, this is one of them. Heard El Rushbo Tan Grande read this on the air. I have to read it myself. Y'see, I was a Democrat until the late 1990's. After 9/11/2001, I became a full-on, hardcore conservative with NOTHING BUT HATRED for the left.

Yes, it is amazing that there are still a few Democrats in the vein of Zell Miller and others that are decent, honest and ethical, but they are a dying breed.

Sadly, this story is a complete anomaly in the media world.

What is most astounding though, just how indicative this story is of the total capitulation that the media has made to the leftist credo. This notion is further reinforced by the fact that the rest of the media will never read it (or understand it), much less report it.

The article discussed on Wednesday's show "Would the Last Honest Reporter Please Turn On the Lights?" is right on. Finally the Truth! I emailed everyone I have an email address for. I ask that everyone please do the same.

Jim, you might find Card's blog of interest. It is called the Ornery American, and can be found at http://www.ornery.org/

The Civilization Watch columns are full of gems by Card, one being "The Death of Shame" (http://www.ornery.org/essays/warwatch/2004-10-17-2.html) that presented a paragraph that seems eerily familiar to today's circumstances:

"That's why CBS throws journalistic ethics to the wind and runs with a story about Bush's National Guard service that is based on obviously fabricated documents. That's why ABC News has no problem with exposing only "distortions" by Bush and ignoring outright lies by Kerry."

The names have changed, but the story is the same, just getting worse…
