Without the minimum wage we would be …. Cambodia?

I love Hardball. Where else can you get great material for your blog like this?

Matthews has Baghdad Jim McDermott on his show to discuss the minimum wage and the idea that it is an idea that has long outlived it’s usefulness. Not to lefties, who believe the way to create a strong middle class is to madate wage levels … and price levels. I mean without the minimum wage companies would cut their wages to the levels in … Cambodia? Oh brother.

Set aside the fact that the minimum wage in Connecticut, applies to 40,000 workers most of whom are in the restaurant business, people who get the majority of their income from tips. And set aside the fact that without the minimum wage most of these people would still earn the same pay. Set aside the fact that the minimum wage already is set at the state level in many cases and the fact that it hinders employment, this is just plain stupid.

If a business wants to pay someone $2 per hour then it's our choice not to work there until the money comes up to an acceptable level.

Tom is right: this is a country where you can make choices (or is for the moment anyway).  Who could live on $2/hour when the government will simply pay you unemployment our welfare?   In fact, given this, the minimum wage is a moot point: nobody has to work for $2/hr with government handouts so easy (and perpetual), so an employer would have no takers until the price was right.

All we are doing is inflating the unemployment rate for teens.

Unemployment runs out at some point.

Having worked for several different  businesses I can tell you that they will screw you as much as they can …..literally work you into the ground for as little as possible ……I witnessed no morality ,,so don't kid yourselves. The funny part is when they make donations to charities ……..it's to assuage the guilt they feel and also for good pr.

McDermott must take his talking points from Matthews…Do you remember Matthews saying that without medicare and health care reform there would be poor people everywhere, old people laying in the streets like in CALCUTTA?…Funny how Matthews never mentioned minimum wage in that little diatribe, yet between April and October of this year, minimum wage suddenly becomes an issue?

And if lefties are supposed to be sooooo politically correct, why do they pick the most third world (excuse me: "developing") nations to hold up as an example of what we're going to become if the right wing has their way?  Huh?  Pretty soon, if Obama/Pelosi/Reid/Larson have their way, we'll end up like Cuba…"no, we don't have any choices, but we have 100% free (ha) health care, education (indoctrination) and SOAP!" (yes, I had a political debate with a Cuban woman once…she was here badmouthing the U.S. and I lost my patience…and she did bring up soap as a benefit of Castro's Cuba).

Ricky it was your "choice" to be exploited by that I mean to have to work hard to earn your compensation. You could have moved on if you were being mistreated. That's how it is in a free society. Personally I want to quit my job because my boss is a PIA. No breaks, always cussing me out, long hours with no time and a half, just on my back constantly but then I'm self employed. Nobody to blame but myself. That means no unemployment, no benefits what I earn is obama's and what he choses to let me keep.
