White House website: “If you like your plan you can keep it” (Still says that…)

When will this page from the White House website be scrubbed? Today it reads “If you like your plan you can keep it and you don’t have to change a thing due to the health care law.”

I want to point out this is a page, not a post related to a news story written on a specific date. If you go to the White House website, and roll over the Issues menu item, one of your choices is Health Care. Click on it. Then click on the About the New Law sub-menu item. Here is the introductory paragraphs, with my emphasis.

Health Care that Works for Americans

On March 23, 2010, President Obama signed the Affordable Care Act into law, putting in place comprehensive reforms that improve access to affordable health coverage for everyone and protect consumers from abusive insurance company practices.

For those Americans who already have health insurance, the only changes you will see under the law are new benefits, better protections from insurance company abuses, and more value for every dollar you spend on health care. If you like your plan you can keep it and you don’t have to change a thing due to the health care law.

For the uninsured or those who don’t get their coverage through work, a key component of the Affordable Care Act will take effect on October 1, when the new Health Insurance Marketplace open for business, allowing millions of Americans to comparison shop for a variety of quality, affordable plans that best meet their health care needs.

Other than the date Obama signed the law, there is nothing true – at all – in those three paragraphs. (OK, we’ll see how the “quality” expectation works out.)

There are now estimates up-to 80 percent of Americans with individual health insurance policies will be forced out of their current plan since it does not meet federal government mandates. My emphasis.

Four sources deeply involved in the Affordable Care Act tell NBC News that 50 to 75 percent of the 14 million consumers who buy their insurance individually can expect to receive a “cancellation” letter or the equivalent over the next year because their existing policies don’t meet the standards mandated by the new health care law. One expert predicts that number could reach as high as 80 percent. And all say that many of those forced to buy pricier new policies will experience “sticker shock.”

Remember back in Jan. 2008 when Obama told us under his cap and trade plan, electricity rates would necessarily skyrocket? I’m wondering why he didn’t tell people the same thing about health care insurance premiums? We told you that if his health care plan passed, premiums would skyrocket, many – especially those with individual coverage – would be kicked off their plan, employee hours would be cut to avoid the mandate, and employers who offered coverage would reduce benefits. Everything we said would happen is happening, yet back then we were “just mad there is a black man in the office.”

If I like my healthcare I can keep it? ?Lier! ?I assumed my employer could never lay me off and I was guaranteed a job for life! I was lied too.

    • Steve McGough on October 29, 2013 at 10:28 am

Did your employer tell you they would never lay you off? No, you assumed that, and now you say the employer lied to you? I have a hunch you’re trying to justify what the president said over-and-over again by using some sort of comparison to your situation … it’s not working.

You are a very confused person!

Reminds me of Jean-Luc?Picard at the helm on Star Trek Next Generation…’make it so’….? Oh wait, that’s science fiction.

      Have you checked your deductible????

      That’s Geico

  4. cranky yankee on October 29, 2013 at 10:08 am

the bad news is my premiums double and my deductible is $6K

  5. Jeremy In Farmington on October 29, 2013 at 12:04 pm

That’s not all the bad news either. ? Turns out that health care providers aren’t slaves. ? There’s no reason at all why they need to participate in the scheme. ? Sadly, you most likely won’t be able to keep your doctor either.
So to sum up the cost of a utopia where no one goes with out deferring the risk of their health care costs we:
    Lose our full time jobs
Lose the insurance plans we like
    Lose our doctors
Get to allow government planners to control our health care.
So keep cheering that victory, noreen2013. ?You don’t want your government masters to suspect that you’re no longer useful… ?They “don’t work for you” if they don’t think you’re useful. ?

I do have one question though. ? Why doesn’t Dear leader just making getting sick illegal?
    ?
    Wouldn’t that solve everything?

  7. Murphy on October 29, 2013 at 12:22 pm

Maybe I can keep my insurance (after paying a fine, sorry I apologize for having a good plan I know it was wrong, I was just thinking of my family and not the poor down trodden masses that couldn’t get my insurance.) But over the last 18 months three of my Doctors have quit the business rather than deal with Big Brother.

  8. Dimsdale on October 30, 2013 at 9:38 am

?bamacare should be renamed “The law of unintended consequences”.?? Unless, of course, the results *were* intended….

  9. Dimsdale on October 30, 2013 at 9:53 am

Seems like website screw ups are the modus operandi for this administration.? And if they can muck up something as relatively simple as the website, what hope is there for the for the bulk of the program.
    ?
If a president’s (and a political party’s) “signature legislation” is such a resounding failure, then what does that say about said president and party?
    ?
The word FAILURE comes to mind (and that is without the diplomatic failures and innumerable scandals associated with the young president).

  10. Dimsdale on October 30, 2013 at 12:33 pm

Joe (“YOU LIE!”) Wilson was prescient.

  11. bien-pensant on October 30, 2013 at 4:25 pm

I didn’t believe candidate Obama back in 2007. I certainly don’t believe anything he or his party says. Of course he lied and will continue to lie. There is no great mystery about that.
Will some people actually see their insurance rates drop? Of course! But, those trumpeting their good fortune have to ask themselves how long will they enjoy their good fortune? And, I would like to know if those who are seeing a reduction in their rates (that go for a lower deductible, too?) are democrats? Are they union members? Are they connected? Are they the party elites?
The whole thing is structured to fail. Single payer government run health care is the objective. On that, Obama was clear. That is the goal of the liberals.

    • Gary J on October 30, 2013 at 4:52 pm

Remember his promise to fundamentally change the USA. It’s working. He and his Ilk have most of us ticked off real good. Pull harder you young folks pull flipin harder.

  12. Gary J on October 30, 2013 at 4:50 pm

The whole mess is quite simply leading to single payer <will be no different than Social Security>

    • Dimsdale on November 1, 2013 at 9:13 am

Now what will the Canadians do??

  13. Lynn on October 30, 2013 at 8:44 pm

Agree, already the sheep have begun to bleat,”sin..gle pay..er sys..tem”. Just listen to Bob Beckel and you know the next play. Do we have a checkmate for the check?

Best op ed by disgruntled guy forced to buy ?bamacare (hat tip Hotair.com): http://www.latimes.com/opinion/opinion-la/la-ol-obamacare-health-insurance-rates-increase-too-expensive-20131029,0,1645290.story#axzz2jFbnU36w

    Best comment (Omar22):
“So, you thought you would able to leverage your youth and health into starting a business, a family, creating wealth for yourself and the rest of the nation, but instead, you get to spend your time and energy propping up socialized medicine.”
    ?
The rest of the comments are equally illuminating, hopefully for deluded ?bamariods.
    ?
    What an economy crushing maneuver…

    • Lynn on November 1, 2013 at 4:13 pm

unfortunately, the disgruntled 34 yr old sounds like his solution will be single payer, since he blames the greedy insurance CEOs. He also trusts the govt. I just can’t understand why he doesn’t call the govt greedy.
