Many have been clamoring for leadership at the national level for the Republican National Committee. Does anyone even know who Mike Duncan is?

Duncan is the chairman of the RNC, and quite honestly he’s a nobody. He’s got a fine resume and I’m sure he’s a nice guy, but he’s got zero name recognition.

Hot Air is asking the question of the hour. Malkin has a poll up too, but it’s not as straight forward.

Newt Gingrich and Michael Steele have both been mentioned as being interested in ousting current leadership come January, and my first thought is that both could be good choices, but what do I know.

I think Gingrich is a great teacher, one who would be an excellent organizer and could fill the role quite well. I’m not so certain that he is electable, therefore the RNC chair may be a good spot for him.

I do like Michael Steele – although I don’t know too much about him yet – and think he may be a candidate that would be more acceptable compared to Gingrich – no offense to Newt.

Maybe the RNC chairman’s responsibilities should simply be the ability to teach conservatism, raise funds, support marketing efforts and get top-notch people (like Steele) interested in running for office.

Note that the poll at Hot Air confirms I’m not alone thinking there is no clear choice, the poll is split down the middle right now.

More reading and other possible candidates.

Newt for RNC chair?

Malkin is saying thanks, but no thanks to Newt

How about Fred Thompson?

Huckabee thinks that his former campaign manager – Chip Saltsman – would be a good bet

Note: Even though Malkin states her case against Newt for chairman, the voting on her site shows Newt’s still got solid one out of three support.

Here’s a link to my previous post – The case against Obama presidency (Part 2) – and a link to Bruce’s post – An appeal to Obama supporters – which is more polished and shorter.

Next, we have Fred Thompson. Take 12 minutes to watch and listen. Thanks to Ed over at Hot Air.

Update: He’s out.

It looks like Fred is out. He started off slow and never really got going. Some people might say that he did not want it bad enough. Personally, I think he really wanted to serve, but it was not in his nature to deal with all of the crap that was required to run. He also has not dedicated the last 20 years of his life to prepare for running.

Some people might say that he started too late. Are they kidding? The nature of the business – running for president – is now a four year process. No kidding. It should not be a four year process.

The other issue was that he’s not considered a “sound bite” candidate. He’s more deep than that, and the media looses interest if you can not provide them a good sound bite that is under 10 seconds. Those 10 second answers suit the populist candidates quite well. All they need to do is say that they understand the needs of the people and feel their pain. Then they say they will fix it.

Crap, all crap.

As far as I can tell, he’s the only Republican candidate that had a chance and was a true conservative, not a Regan conservative – I don’t care about that – I just want a conservative thank you very much.

The next question is whether Thompson is willing to stump for another candidate, and maybe consider the vice president position on the ticket.

If he throws his support to McCain, he may tick-off more conservatives. Right now, I guess my hope would be to have him toss his support to Romney.
