Seen the latest about corn prices? And now, the rest of the story….
All morning long, one of the lead stories in the morning news is that corn prices are going to rise due to smaller harvests, and from that, the price of virtually everything that uses corn, from cattle feed to Coke will see a price rise.
What you don’t see is many (or any) references to the effect that ethanol, or as I like to call it, boondoggelol, is a prime contributor to this small harvest. Apparently, government controlled mainstream media doesn’t think that is newsworthy. But is it?
I found an article that does put ethanol in the forefront of the problem. The key paragraph states:
“Corn is found in about a quarter of the products you buy at the grocery store and is widely used as animal feed. About 40% of the U.S. corn crop is used to create the fuel additive ethanol. And about 15% of it is exported to other countries.”
I didn’t see that on the Early Show this morning.
So not only does ethanol lower the energy content of gasoline, requiring you to use more, and ruin engines by absorbing water from the atmosphere, but it is responsible for raising the price of meat and other foods you need.
Nice system, huh? The government gets some marginal decrease in emissions, about 66 kilograms of CO2 per million BTUs for E10 vs. close to 71 for gasoline on the same scale, but it gets increased revenue from gas taxes on the increased fuel sales due to the lowered efficiency of gasohol. One has to wonder if the emissions gains mentioned above disappear due to the need to burn more fuel per mile. Dare I say that this will be yet another nail in the coffin of the U.S. economy, extending the Øbama recession?
I think it would be a safe bet that this corn harvest issue will be twisted into yet another “global warming” issue to deflect blame from their crackpot legislation and policies.

The Iowa farmers love this! The rest of us can thank our legislators of all stripes who cannot bring themselves to rescind farm subsidies.
I don’t know what farm subsidies have to do with it but perhaps not burning ethanol will bring? prices down.
Okay…so, grocery prices are off the charts crazy, jacked up and unaffordable.? Lately, the most affordable food I can find is a case of ramen noodle soup for under a dollar (for 12).? Is ramen on the new US Gov. food pyramid, because if it isn’t, it ought to be.?? They’re regulating us to the point that consumers are losing expendable income (bwaaaahahahahahahaaaaa!) because food costs are so flipping high thanks to the cost of corn.? Where, oh where, does the stupidity END?? *banging head*

Not only have the prices of food soared, the amount of product in the package, and, in some cases, the package itself, have shrunk to point of comical relief.? Take for instance the ever, incredible, shrinking ice cream container.? What used to be a typical half? gallon (2 quarts) container is now 1.5 quarts; they’re so comically cute.
They’re just doing that so the country can have more fun! Everything is now “Fun size”!
From 30 oz. ‘quarts’ of mayonnaise, to 59 oz. ‘half gallons’ of orange juice, to 16.3 oz. Peanut butter, everything is so much fun now.?
I’m waiting to see when the FDA cracks down and makes potato chip makers correctly identify their product as “nitrogen with potato flavoring.”
At least they’re not using (malted) barley for ethanol.??? Since the gummint is driving us to drink’, it’s not nice to promote scarcity of the ingredients!
Let’s not forget about the research showing the potential for increased air pollution and health risks from ethanol, more so than from straight gasoline.? (“The jury is still out though”)

Go back to the last national conventions when Rudy Guliani said facts can be changed and Joe Biden said facts get in the way…
