I really hesitate to write these posts. There are still 7 weeks left. But … well I’m not the one saying it … but a lot of other people are … a lot.
Obama’s problem has been coming for months and we could see it more clearly on the right. “Just words” may work with his base … but not with middle America. Nor do government programs win over voters anymore. Given the state of DC these days, most Americans cringe at the thought of an even bigger government and his tax and defense plans have changed so often (more moderate on taxes, more hawkish on defense), I am guessing Americans have just tuned him out.
Update: Paul at Powerline has a more reasoned look at this than I do and apparently a lot of others. It would be good for the McCain camp to pay attention so it doesn’t do the same thing Democrats seem to be best at … misunderestimating the opposition. Paul’s comments are at the end of the post.


If McCain can keep his lead going into the debates, he will pretty much have the election locked up by the time debate #1 is over. He should then spend the next month focused on helping the Republicans take back Congress.
